The World at War was first broadcast 31st October 1973, when memories of the Second World War were still clear in people's minds and the war's veterans numerous. This unique television series was able to assemble these recollections, together with archive footage into one of the most powerful and successful historical documentaries ever seen. The voices of those that fought, worked or watched during the Second World War gave each episode a vivid sense of what it was like to be there and was the hallmark of the series.
Over 30 years on, the series is still widely acknowledged to be the definitive history of the Second World War - the best of its kind.

This 35 1/2 hour 11 disco box set contains;
- Original 26 Episodes.
- 8 Special Presentations.
- 3 hour 30th Anniversary Disc containing previously unseen interviews and retrospective interviews with the original production team.

damn, still waiting for them to drop to around £20 mark before I'm buying, £20 I feel is a fair price for these sort of boxsets at this stage of DVD's lifecycle.

The set was free sometime ago through a national paper, so I agree £30 is still too much as you could still copy direct from tv when it is run again

Depends what you want I suppose. This box set fully focuses on World War II whereas that, although I expect it is an excellent box, would not have as much depth on it as its looking at different wars from the last century.

The UK History repeats always cut a few minutes out of each episode (for adverts I guess) which adds up to about 2 episodes worth over the 26 episode run.

Plus you get the special extra documentaries (such as the 2 parter on Auschwitz narrated by Eric Porter which don't get repeated on TV.)
