When this epic series was first broadcast in 1973 it redefined the gold standard for television documentary, it remains the benchmark by which all factual programming must judge itself.

Originally shown as 26 one-hour pragrammes, The World At War set out to tell the story of the second World War through the testimony of key participants. The result is a unique and unrepeatable event, since many of the eyewitnesses captured on film did not have long left to live. Each one-hour programme is carefully structured to focus on a key theme or campaign, from the rise of Nazi Germany to Hitler's downfall and the onset of The Cold War. There are no academic "talking heads" here to spell out an official version of history, the narration delivered with wonderful gravitas by Sir Laurence Olivier, is kept to a minimum. The show's great coup was to allow the participants to speak for themselves. Painstaking research in the archives of the Imperial War Museum also unearthed a vast quantity of newsreel footage, including on occasion the cameraman's original raw rushes which present an unvarnished and never-before-seen picture of important events.

Special Features:

8 special presentations
3 hour 30th anniversary disc containing previously unseen interviews and retrospective interviews with the original production team

Beware, CD Wow are in serious problems following their massive fine and are looking for a buyer so it may be a bit of a gamble - DVDSoon anyone:whistling:

Caveat Emptor and all that.

Good price tho' but after the Daily Mail giveaways, you'd expect the price to tumble from other suppliers as well:thumbsup:
Damn, didn't know that before I posted (and ordered!) the boxset. Edited description, cheers cheapskate58
Weren't all the disks free in the Mail on Sunday a few weeks back?
Available for £5.89 each per DVD (5 DVDs in total) @

Works out £29.45 delivered
Fantastic series , but as you know the Daily Mail had a great offer recently . Save 18 daily tokens and get the full set [I think there is 26] for £14.99 . I'm waiting for mine to be sent .But ,for anyone who missed the offer you could risk the CD Wow offer .
sendit are not much better, judged my my experience of them :-(
Yeah, I missed the Daily Mail offer (didn't even know about it!). Will post again if I receive the set :)
I've just remebered I got this from HMV last year in a misprice for £6.95 or someting crazy like that, was unusual for them to honour it.
What a tragedy - CD-Wow was a fantastic company, which has been brought down because it tried to sell us CDs and DVDs at reasonable prices, rather than the rip-off prices artificially set in Europe.
Yet more proof that the big corporations in the UK are screwing us over.
Beware, CD Wow are in serious problems following their massive fine and are looking for a buyer so it may be a bit of a gamble

Rip off Britain strikes again. CD-Wow sell cds for half the price the BPI wants them sold for in this country so takes them to court. Is that not called price fixing????
Just thought I'd mention that I did receive the discs on 6th September which for the price I was happy with - unfortunately the discs were faulty (maybe a manufacturing defect) so a replacement is being sent.
