upto 20tb this sounds good but are they reliable ?

Thecus are a well known brand and this particular NAS is not bad as long as you know the limitations. It will be a great choice as a traditional NAS, i.e. file server and data backup solution.

On the other hand if you're thinking of using this as a media server on top (which is what I was after) then probably not a great choice, at least that's what I gather reading a few reviews.

My N5200 is still going strong! purchased in 2006. Tempted to replace it at this price though.

I think you will find they where trying to use it as a media player, not media server.

interesting but quite old now. synology isn't that much more from a more reputable dealer.
