So, what exactly, does "Theres No Place Like 127.0.0.1" mean?

It means 'I'm a sad nerdy ****'. HTH :)

The literal translation is 'There's no place like localhost'

See.... Sad nerdy.....

127.0.0.1 = "Home" or your homepage in certain local systems
#5
Be aware size xxl is £4.95 - not £2.00
#6
It means there's no place like 'home'.

127.0.0.1 is a special IP address reserved for loopback. That means if you were to try and make a connection to 127.0.0.1 you would be trying to make a connection to your own computer.

I suspect that they couldn't even give these t-shirts away, much less move them for £2 each.
#7
there's a Tetris one at the same price too. Ordered a couple for the OH

FYI:
Other variants on the same theme (doormats, bumper stickers, male & female 'babydoll' T-shirts) available for import from ThinkGeek.com...

(I have a few shirts from here but not one of the "127.0.0.1" items... as I thought I would look a right PING in one).

BFN,

actually the whole of 127.0.0.0/8 is reserved for loopback - try pinging any valid IP address starting 127.

and I guess the problem with shifting them is all the cool kids are after "there's no place like ::1" now IPv6 is growing in popularity.

You have to look like the bloke in the IT Crowd with the glasses and fuzzy hair to wear one of these ...

.. oh yeah, most computer geeks do anyway :)
#22
Are there any IPv6 equivalent shirts? :whistling:

Edit : Bah, read previous.

To be fair this is a good thing as the remaining 2.95 is not spent on more Pies.

We're not all weedy wimps. Some of us are fat too!
#26
There really is no place like home when you're getting a beatdown for wearing geeky t-shirts. At least they got the colour right so that the bloodstains won't show up as much.

Could also use

There's no place like localhost
There's no place like ~

Technically localhost (usually) means 127.0.0.1 but 127.0.0.1 doesn't mean localhost.

Just depends how your /etc/hosts file is set up (on real computers).

Ah, but I said literal. If you believe the jovo's it's a sin to have a blood transfusion ;-)

lol how sad on a scale of 1-10 is it that i know what it meant already
#34
With the weather we have had I think it would be more fitting to have this t-shirt printed with

'There's no place like Nome'
#35
How about theres no place like red. One for the surrealists :)

No. He means 127.0.0.0/8

As /8 means only the first 8 bits have to be matched to the specified subnet, ie the first subset, 127.

Any address in the 127.x.x.x format will resolve to localhost on default configurations. 127.0.0.0/24 will require the first 24 bits (three subsets of 8 bits) of IP addresses to be matched to the subnet, and hence will restrict it to 127.0.0.x

PS - on an unrelated note, is anybody else amused by the fact todays date looks like its in binary? 11/01/10?

PPS - ever have one of those feelings that you really should have steered clear of this entire conversation?
