London has some miserable views from up above including the london eye.Horrible dirty river, grey clouds & old bricks :( Nothing interesting at all.
Think you just have had your eyes closed. London has one of the most eye catching skylines in the world. all though famous landmarks.
yeah the sky garden is on of the walkie Talkie not the cheese greater

We have an office in the Walkie Talkie and thus I go in the Sky Garden, which is free, regularly. Its better than the Shard, the floor is a bit lower but at 37 floors up its well high enough. Bar and restaurants there. Views on every side beat the Shard as on the correct side of the river. Tower of London down to Canary Wharf one side; Shard, City Hall, HMS Belfast etc another; St Paul's down to the London Eye another side; and the City- Gherkin, Cheese Grater etc the last side. I always wonder why people pay money to go up The Shard or on the London Eye. If you every want to eat in a restaurant go for the cheaper Brasserie- its better in my view. Have to book usually plenty of time in advance for the restaurants.
Do you know if once you've eaten in the restaurant are you free to stay in the sky gardens? Looking at dinner in the brasserie but hoping to catch sunset.!
Yes there is no one throwing you out.

have you ever actuallu booked a slot? 3 weeks in advance is furthest you can go & always sold out...
you just have to book a few weeks in advance- availability all day on Sat 6th May for example, in fact all that preceding week is open for booking- you cannot be looking early enough.

Another alternative is going to the bar on 32nd floor. There is no booking required and no fee. Drinks are a little more expensive than they would be otherwise but views are very similar.
At least if the kids ticket is free you won't feel so bad having paid from £25.95 for your own ticket when the child stares out of the window and says "is this it?"
A trip to the top of Monument will cost you £3.95. Not as high but just as spectacular views

Joined the queue at 4:10pm, left with my annual pass (minus a few days) at 6:07pm.
Passed by around 7.45am this morning - several hundred in the queue :( . Tried again at 4.30pm, only queuing inside but told it would 1 and half hours! :( Gave up - only probably want to once, not worth it to save £5
Went on Sunday. Would not go again. Once you have done it, that's it. Exit through the gift shop.....
I got one last year.
Bearing in mind I work right next to it, I managed to get myself up there 4 times.

It's really not that special. As said above they really are trying hard to pad out the benefits. There's a personal audio thing to listen to, screens dotted around giving you info on the landmarks you're facing and a tiny bar. That's about it.
Living reasonably locally I'd have almost zero interest in paying to view from the Shard once, never mind multiple times in a year. They clearly know that they don't have much to offer, given that they pad out the benefits with things like:
"London Landmark Guarantee – you’ll be walking on air amongst the clouds, but if they spoil your view, you can return for free! *Terms apply"
So basically something you are getting anyway WITHOUT the London Landmark Guarantee - I guess saying "you can return for free without having to argue with us under the guarantee terms about whether you can see One Canada Square or not" doesn't sound quite as attractive.

Go on the other side of the river to the "Walkie Talkie" sky gardens and you can go up there for free, just need to prebook a timeslot online. Great view (155m up) and it's opposite the Shard. Has a bar and cafe up there. Can't complain for a freebie :-)

Went up with my girls in August was great for free
Completely agree with the above ^^ I've lived in central London for a few years and have no idea how the Shard still manages to sell tickets at £25 a time when you can get basically the same thing at the Walkie Talkie building for free. View from Walkie Talkie is a few metres lower than the Shard's platform I believe, and of course is marginally different as it's on the other side of the river.

It's a few years since I've been, but Tower 42 in the City has a champagne bar at the top, which also offers great views. You have to book and most drinks are in the £10+ bracket, but still cheaper than the Shard.

Good deal, however sky garden is free and with brilliant views of London.
Thanks. Hadn't heard of this. You can have quite a nice free trip to London if you plan ahead. even the many two for one deals seem pricey. e.g £32 for 30mins on the wheel.
Another option is the Heron Tower, look for the Duck and Waffle or Sushi Samba up the top.
Should give you a good view of striking doctors perhaps?
Utter rubbish & waste of money climb the o2 for a better involved experience!!

Went 2 weeks ago with some visitors outside of the UK to work. Amazing views, really amazing. Extortionate price. It's a good deal, but still around £30 way too much.
Wonder if they're feeling the competition from Sky Garden (which is free!)
in laws have been pestering me about going to the shard dont understand it myself but might send them next time there in london thanks op
Ridiculous, sums up the look but don't touch message that radiates from 'our' (once) great capital city. Paying £50 for a family of four to take a ride on a lift in a residential building. The world has gone mad.

went at xmas. tower of london in the morning and then a 20 min walk to the shard after lunch. the kids (aged 10, 8 & 5) loved it. spent a good 90 mins up here - little one counted cars and trains etc while the bigger two used the screen things. then took them to Bodeans for dinner by tower hill after. Great day out.

Hi Neil - just seen your post - I am going to The Shard in May - is Bodeans just a take away or is it a sit in restaurant too please? And also - are there any other attractions which are nearby please? Thank you very much - Debs x
It's a fantastic price - I booked up last week for £25 which is for an adult and 2 kids to go during half term. It is the highest building in Europe and you get a 360 degree view of one of the most famous capital cities in the world - how can that not be worth £25? It's a one off and I think has to be done.

I have done the Empire State Building - but have to say it is far more exciting to be going up The Shard to look out over London where the land marks mean something to me x
Fantastic offer - thank you for posting! Makes a visit with the kids actually affordable :D
This is a hot deal when you consider you are paying £25 for three people (albeit two kids) to look out from one of the tallest buildings in Europe.

Tnx OP

You know what , the views are beautiful BUT I would NOT pay 25 quid just to go up and see the view when you can have lunch in the restaurant with great views AND go to the lounge bar afterwards for drinks , again with fantastic views for you to photograph if you wish

I spent £40 on dinner which I would never normally do , lunch is cheaper , but it was worth it for the whole experience and at least you get an amazing meal AND the views

If you want a really special day / evening with someone book a window table in the restaurant and you won't be disappointed!

Am planning to take my daughter there for her Birthday lunch :D

( Not paying just for the views but AM paying for a nice meal with the views and the pastry chefs there do some FABULOUS desserts! ) x
Nice pics, but a multi million/billion pound building & they didn't put a toilet paper holder in? :-)

magough
My girlfriend took me for my birthday 2 weeks ago.
It is definitely worth doing although i would probably do it in the summer.
It started raining when we were there although i still enjoyed it.
One thing i'd say is go just before sunset so you get to see London by daylight and then stay until the sun has set, and you get to see it by night too :)
I probably wouldn't say it is worth £24.95 and there is nowhere to sit once you're up there either. You're also not allowed to go down and get a drink or something and come back up, which was quite annoying.
There's a very small little gift shop when you're up there and don't forget you can also walk up 1 more flight of stairs and it takes you to the open air bit which i quite enjoyed.

To be honest, 1 of my favourite bits was the toilet :)

Check out the "wee with a view"!

Shocked at the normal price, but I guess it's a 'deal' for those who were willing to spend that amount of money.. Think I'd rather take a walk up a nice mountain for free - good for you too ;-)

£25 oO - they must be mad.
Once world tallest Taipei 101 standard ticket price currently stands at NT$450 (around £10)
If they do price match I might go...
Looks like the initial rush has ended, loads of tickets available at all times in February
davestavros

I went up the Empire State, pretty good, but the dirty big ape got in the way

Maybe the £25 is to make one feel a bit of vertgo before One goes up

Stupid monkey! I had my lovely island honeymoon retreat ruined when I was captured by the locals and my new bride was offered up to a giant gorilla.

Anyway, if any of the cheapskates on here want a similar experience from the comfort of their own computer (so they can spend their hard earned £25 on a dominoes takeaway and a blu-ray steelbook, I presume) should go here:

http://www.willpearson.co.uk/virtual-tour/gigapixel-view-from-the-top-of-the-shard/

This guy over-processes his photos but he took this gigapan from a crane at the top of the Shard. The price of entry is quite high but it is line with the cost of similar attractions in London, unfortunately. I wish there was some kind of "locals price" for people who can demonstrate they live in the London area and agree to visit an quieter times.

just take a look at that link and dont find there are many to see up there...it just looks like what you can see from the window of a plane arriving or leaving London. i would recommend sky100 in ICC in Hong Kong for a better experience.

and cold for the price too (£25 vs £12-ish) and you can reach 150m higher there.

Must be nice for people in London to get so many attractions....can the rest of the country have a share Mr Cameron:)

But will be a nice view anyway.

What an absolute stupid statement....

When does a private building in London have anything to do with David Cameron...

Jump on the bandwagon why don't you...
there are better highs for £25 ;)
