This looks a very good price and even better as qvc offer a 30 day try it policy and at this time of of year it will be 25th of Jan so if you change your mind, you can return it . . . . I can't buy this as I can't get Freeview only freesat

Don't forget the £6.95 postage although you can partly offset this with 5% quidco (10% for new customers)
#3
Seems like a pretty good price - Amazon are showing price as £150.

QVC in good deal shocker oO

looked at the details for this box and it says only 250GB is available for recording, the other 250 reserved for topup TV I think. Some reviews for this box are very poor, so I would say no thanks. Quote "i would like nothing better that to get rid of my thomson heap of junk"

a 500Gb disk is much cheaper than one of these.
The value of the disk inside is the only value it has

They are such rubbish, I would consider it a personal insult if someone gave me one for free

Ok it may not be the best on the market but That's the beauty of QVC you can use it for a month and see if it lives up to your expectations, and if it does not then return it. Ok the postage is £6.95, but you couldn't could not rent it for that price. . I have bought many items from QVC and returned a few, without any problems and have had very quick refunds.

QVC often do special deals with companies so they can give "Added Value"

Clearly, you've never had one.

Normally vastly overpriced, QVC have so few reasonable value offers in the first place, they usually are easy to spot on the rare occasions they are even close to other retailers, but if this was half the price, it would be poor value, whoever you bought it from.

The trick is to buy the right gear in the first place, and not spend valuable time messing about with rubbish from third rate retailers in the first place. With some stuff it's hard to do, but these machines are SO well reviewed by so many people, it's a no-brainer, just avoid at all costs.

Unless sorting out refunds and returns is your idea of a hobby, that is!

I get the feeling that Thomson are rubbish at best, my own experience of their kit has been 100% dross, but at least I did get a few months moderate use out of a Home Cinema system of theirs, the PVR is just tripe from start to finish!

I agree with others, I had 2 Thomson PVR's, both were rubbish, both returned for refund.

Oh and BTW, the OP should add the P+P charges to the listed price.

Correct, buyers have no choice on the matter, QVC do not have any stores as such.

My Thomson Tivo has been one of the most reliable bit's of kit I have had the pleasure to own. Mind you Thomson make the hardware and Tivo provide the software.

Therein may lie much of the reason!

I am sure that for everyone who thought something was "Rubbish" there would be ten who thought this it was "Great" what ever product you bought
I have only been on this site a few weeks but already I can see the cynics. . I can understand that some products do not live up to some peoples expectations but using words like "rubbish" and saying "would be insult of was given one as a present" is a little unfair (I am using my words carefully) . but luckily there are more logical commonsense users on this site than the cynical ones
Personally I was just listing something with I thought would be of interest, I not here to earn brownie points. . as for QVC yes something's are over priced, but some offer very good value when you can try it in your own home and return it if you don't don't like ( not because its faulty ) must be a good . Some products you can even pay over 4 month interest free I bought a product a 1TB ClickFree backup system in NOVEMBER, buying over 3 months interest free but I still can return it up to the 25th of January I don't know of any other company with over such terms. .But better still you can see them on TV or the web.

Is this still available - if so, can you provide a link that works?
#18
Ridiculous that it doesn't have an HDMI connection. Cold from me.
#19
The Item link is there if you wait and look. . . As this freeview is SD and not HD maybe it's not not required the have one, but would have been an advantage but then Ethernet would have been nice also.

Your information is wrong. .QVC UK was launched in October 1993. QVC UK's headquarters and broadcasting facilities are located at Marco Polo House in Battersea, London, while call center and distribution facilities are situated in Knowsley, Merseyside. QVC UK also runs two outlet stores, one in Warrington, the other in Shrewsbury.

having previously had a 160 Gb thompson, I wouldn't waste my time with this...
it kept re-selecting weaker signal transmitters, and no amount of tinkering would make it stay on the stronger ones. THEN, the HDD packed up... mmm... very impressive..

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/digihome-250gb-freeview-box-grade-a/818185 - a bit less storage, and about £20 cheaper once you factor in delivery.

I walked into Tesco to buy one of these a few months ago and the member actually told me not to and pointed to a pallet of around 15 which he said were all returns from the last two weeks. I asked how many they had sold and he said around 45 so 1 in 3 at least fell over in first two weeks.

That should read staff member......................although I have met a few talking "members" in Tesco's but thats another story..........................................

Seems to have expired anyway - no sign of it on the website.

DIg around it's still there if you look

Thomson make pretty solid boxes but I've found most Freeview recorders problematic (Humax has been the best for me). But if you're on a tight budget this is worth a go although make sure you cancel the TopUp TV thing. You may have to cancel as buying this item may actually start the contract. Read the small print. I doubt you'd be in a contract but you don't know.

i have an old thomson machine (DHD4000 model but has 40GB HDD so that tells you how old it is) that was from Argos for about £99.. years and years ago and it's been superb and hasnt failed me... the only prob i have had is recently because it was before freeview was standardised for the EPG's and it doesnt get the schedules anymore but i can still manually record a program. (there were quite a few people with other brands also have this problem including digifusion and sony where the EPG was provided by 4TV)
see http://www.which.co.uk/news/2010/07/pvrs-lose-inview-freeview-epg-updates-220295/

but although thomson are an entry level brand i certainly would recommend them from my experience, sorry it's slightly off topic but i think for the price this looks like a good buy for someone who needs a PVR

Have a 160gb Thomson box and will not buy any more of their products.Usually I research electrical items before I buy but my wife bought this last xmas for me instore Tesco.I found out later that it was a refurbished item. They are always for sale in Tesco as refurbished which should get the alarm bells ringing. It stops, starts, freezes and is regularly misses recordings.Lesson learnt.

10% Quidco for new customers as well

I have the 80Gb Thomson, very good box. I have had it for about 3 years and in that time had had to wipe it twice and sometimes have to reboot it. Can't compare of course to a Humax, but a great priced PVR.

Not wrong at all, they are " Outlet Stores " only, not normal retail stores.

They just use them to flog off the hyped up, over priced stuff that they cannot palm off on to the normal gullible followers.

Had two 32" crt Thomson tvs, both went back. Good tv but noise when using pc input via svhs.

Why risk making your life a misery by buying this when £79.95 will get you one of these which will guarantee you many, many hours of bunny happiness?
#35
I'm just lookin for one with the facility to save to usb stick. Only ones i know of are sagem and am entrenched not to buy the £150 from Argos. Their Sagem 500Gb was £150 which they discontinued and now tout the smaller as full price of £150 when it never was.

tesco have a box that solely records to a USB stick if that's any good for you?
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.206-1980.aspx

I'm currently weighing up whether this might be a good buy, with the price of USB sticks gradually coming lower...

Ah Argos used to sell that too but if i remember the reviews were so-so. The sagem is the best out there because it takes up less space with its large internal hdd and the smaller bits you want can be exported to usb. Perhaps time to review this given flash drive prices. Then again my largest need is to let something record a whole day of eurosport so i'm able to watch the bike racing whatever time they finally show it without having to hover round all day waiting. But that would need a DVD recorder (ie Scart in ) and all but the expensive lines are slated as unreliable.

Unfortunately the box that you link to above has been discontinued by Tesco
