Hurguda would be safe, don't leave the city though. Be alert at all times (Don't indulge in the all-you-can-drink in excess)

A week ago a Polish woman died as a result of jumping out of a hospital window after it was suspected she was raped, drugged or a victim of people trafficking in an area south of Hurghada. (source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-39886642 )

I'm a fan of Sharm, however haven't been since the russian plane blew up, and unlikely to return in the next few years until the area is calmer.

Just? They've been cancelling since October 2015, I dont think its ever been reopened. Thomas Cook are deceitful if they are still accepting bookings knowing they can't fly there, I guess to trap you in to then having to rebook nearer the time for a greater cost elsewhere?

Thomas Cook haven't 'just' cancelled Sharm as a destination it's been of the books with all UK tour operators since the nutters over there bombed the Russian plane.
It's a shame because Sharms actually quite a nice place but the airport security has been a shambles for as long as I've been going there.

As safe as anywhere.

Never been to Eygpt but have always wanted to go and will do soon.

As for it being cheap.... It's not actually that cheap anymore, prices are more expensive then a lot of places in Europe.

That report makes it clear that it's mere speculation at this point. There has been no evidence put forward that she was abused. All we know is that she was acting strangely and threw herself out of a window.

How safe is Egypt ??? Well about as safe as anywhere, or have you forgotten what happened in Westminster recently ?? OR the nutters arrested when the woman was shot ? Obviously some places are riskier than others but if our own cities aren't safe where is ?? I have just booked to go to Marsa Alam in November which is near Hugarda and about as safe as anywhere, and frankly I'd rather be going there than to our Capital.

the airport security has been a shambles for as long as I've been going there.

I flew from Sharm to cairo to see the pyramids one day, on the way back I went to Burger King before going to the airport, I was allowed to carry my large drink and paper bag full of food all they way through security without being told to x-ray any of it. That was the wake up for me. They didn't look in the bag or anything, just waved me through the metal detectors!
