Thomson twin tuner 250gb recorder instore tesco reduced to £54.

I did a quick check online and the cheapest twin tuner freeview recorder (any brand) was £100.

So thought this was a good deal...

Couple more left in Reading... should be a nationwide deal I guess.

Very poor reviews and they state that half the hard drive is reserved for Top Up TV which apparently is not that good.

I've got one of these & all you need to do is de-select Top Up Tv & you get the full 100% hard drive back. plus I've had no problems at all with mine.

Good price, but I havent really used my freeview recorder since buying the PlayTV adapter. Although to be fair another reason is I think my freeview recorder is on the way out

Top-up tv DVRs aren't great but they do work. If yours doesn't just take it back and get an exchange.

Yes for another brand that might work!

That's the least of your problems!
I see it as an advantage, it won't encourage you to make recordings that you will end up not having!
(Although it's actually easy to get rid of that.)

Why not just donate the money to charity, at least that way someone might get some benefit from it, and you would feel good, because with one of these you won't! :-(

I've got the Thomson DTI6300 and that alone has convinced me to never buy another model they produce. Might be good for someone on a budget (not sure what ekse is about) but I could never recommend one to a friend

I was about to say gutted cos i just bought a play tv for my ps3 (for 30 quid, brand new) but these don't sound like they've been fixed! There was a product recall of these a few months ago but looks like the same problems still occuring!
#17
Really it is awfully, unless you like ringing up customer services to be told to turn it on and off again. I will tell you now how to reset it;

* Menu > Setup > Help
* Then press the Green Button (Even though it doesn't show as an option)
* Then press the Red button for a full reset

All those awful user reviews and STILL it gets voted hot! What's wrong with you HUKDers - money to throw away?

Photo clearly shows a reduction barcode sticker. If this was nationwide they'd just reduce the price on the computer. Definitely store specific.

Bought one of these, and can confirm it deserves the bad reviews it gets. What an absolutely awful piece of kit it was. Took it back after a couple of days of wasting my time trying to get it to work. I thought because it was made by Thomson (who make Sky boxes) that the software would be comparable - how wrong I was!!

Don't waste your time or money - I'd have got more satisfaction taking my £50 and throwing it in the stream at the side of Tesco, it really was that bad!!

Wierd, all the negative reviews i have two of these over a year and apart from missing a recording (1 in 30+) no problems at al,l one get very heavy use, i work from homeand is used 5+ hours a day five days a week.thay were bought when in Asda for about £50 when on offer may have been reconditioned.

Unquestionably a good price but I used to have the 80gb one and it was total garbage, it probably only recorded 1 in 3 of the things I asked it to so I'd be wary about using Thompson again (this looks identical to my old unit.....). It was also very noisy.

Be warned, Top Up TV customer service is awful and the free month ended up costing me a fortune (read the small print, you need to cancel on the same day you sign up - I learned an expensive lesson there!).

I would say that as an intro to a basic freeview recorder though this might be the cheap and cheerful step to seeing if this works, my bad experience prompted me to buy a decent one because when they work they are excellent. Heat added.

Mine works brilliantly. They deserve to have a poor reputation because they are often unreliable, but its far overblown. Think about it logically - if they didn't work, people wouldn't buy them, and people wouldn't subscribe to TUTV as they wouldn't be able to use it.

As I said, they aren't great (hence the low price tag) but they do generally work.

same here, not one problem with mine & have had it quite a while now. yet the mil has a humax, which at the moment makes a lovely door wedge !

Don't just walk away from this deal, RUN! I had one of these boxes and had no end of trouble with it, frequent glitching despite good signal, failed/missed recordings. Very buggy and appalling customer support. Mine died in the end due to dodgy capacitors in the PSU.

Another negative experience here. If somebody tried to give me another one of these I'd refuse it, let them take it to the tip or boot fair, save me the hassle.

Just to add something nobody has mentioned so far... the hard drive on these is powered up constantly, whether the machine is on or not. If it's plugged in, the drive is spinning and making noise. WTF?
#38
I also have the smaller hard drive DTI6300.
It was great for 6 months, then started to freeze 3 or 4 times a week. When it does this, you have to power it off at the wall, and switch back on.

It used to freeze constantly for abut 3 months.

Then for a year was totally fine, but for the last 3 months it is so loud on standby, so I now leave it plugged out as the noise was deafening. Subsequently, I never use it as when I could use it I can't be bothered to plug it in and wait for it to boot up.

I now use PlayTV for the Playstation 3 for recording. So much easier to use.

Just who DOES subscribe? Even without the box issues, it's a waste of money for very little.
Never met anyone, ever!
Plenty get Sky or Cable.
