Got a question about these Three sims: Can they also be used for downloading stuff at places like MacDonalds via The Cloud (wifi)?

Yeah, I know they are only 3G sims but I previously went to Macdonalds with my o2 3G sim, registered with The Cloud and started using wifi there.

Tried the same thing again a few weeks later and logged onto the Cloud using the same log in details as the previous visit. But I wasn't able to download MP3 files. The only thing that had changed between visits was I no longer had data allowance left on that o2 sim, and use a Three sim for 3G instead.

So, I wonder if you need to have credit on your o2 3G sim in order to download on The Cloud (or indeed BT Openzone)?

I used to be with O2 before they cut the allowance. From what I can remember the deal used to be £15.00 for 3GB data (now 2GB) 1 month plus free unlimited use of The Cloud and BT Open Zone.

The free Wifi was valid for the whole month or until you had used up your data allowance, I think the fair usage at the time was 40GB a month for the Wifi.

I forgot to say, 3 does not offer Wifi through The Cloud, that is only part of the O2 package.

Yeah, as I suspected. Thanks.

May have to rethink my strategy in moving over from o2 to Three for 3G because I need the cloud or BT openzone for downloading windows updates and some multimedia stuff (unable to get broadband at home).

Trouble is, Three is faster than o2 with 3G, and is thus preferable.

Any suggestions? :|

I could not use my Three 12Gb preloade SIM in the USA without adding additional credit - looking at 3's site is a bit confusing as they don't seem to specifically mention preloaded data SIM's and they say PAYG data dongles are ready for roaming but then they say "Any usage is not included in the standard Mobile Broadband Add-ons" which seems to apply to preloaded SIMs,

So as far as I could make out, preloaded data SIMs need additional credit adding before they work abroad despite you having a healthy data allowance unused on the SIM.... go to view your account page which shows your remaining data allowance and (on mine at leastI) you'll see a remaining data allowance plus your add on amount.

Roaming data charges are not cheap - 1MB - yes MEGABYTE is anything from £1.28 in and around most of Europe to £10. So not for iplayer!

1MB of data is £3 in the USA
