Pretty good data-only SIM card. I usually get a few and just cycle through them as I need them, they can be cut down to micro-sim size for the iPad. You basically get up to 3GB of data that does not expire for 3 months. No contract, just PAYG. Throw the SIM away at the end of three months/3GB and get another! :-)

Start date is from *first use* so you can buy them in advance and stick them in a drawer. The amazon price seems to bounce up and down a bit, but £9 is pretty good for zero-faff SIM deal.

This could be useful, thanks.

My advice is to stay away from 3. Biggest shower I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with.

I've bought 4 of these now. Nice and cheap fast delivery and they are exactly as described. 8)

The price would bounce up and down as this isn't sold by Amazon just through them.

Great deal 8)

I currently pay 3 a fiver a month for 1gb. My contract expires soon so I won't bother to renew and I'll just use these as needed.

Great deal. Keep using those for 3G access on the go. Nothing beats this price. Much cheaper than monthly deals. Works great too.

These are good, I used to buy them off e bay for about 6 squid but that dried up. I could mention here that if you download dodgy things like movies and mp3 then there is very little to trace you by but I won't mention that as this is a wholesome site.

They are still available on eBay for around £7 delivered.

If you do it right, you can use home broadband for that and never get traced.

I do use it for home broadband and it works very well.
Never given any contact details. Anyway, you could just buy another sim.

So can these be used in mobile phones for internet access? No calls or texts unless you register I guess?
#15
Great find, ordered 4 for daughter, thanks
#16
You get these for cheaper on a well known auction site ;)

Newbie question. Can I use this to get internet access via my laptop? Where do I fit it on my laptop? Do I need to put it into something, that then plugs into my laptop's USB socket? Any recommendations? Thanks.

No, they are just for dongles, mifi and ipad if you cut them down

Good deal but God help you if you have to deal with them for anything. They dont send you a bill so you dont know your account number or the number to call to speak to the shower or spanners.

They actually make Orange Customer Services look good!

Received my 3 MiFi dongle two days ago (5GB, one month contract).

Phoned them up yesterday to give them 30 days notice to cancel... they offered me 5gb for £7.99 p/m (for 6 months) - needless to say I took it :D

My advice is to not take notice of anyone moaning about how bad Network provider X is on the internet, as if you did you'd have to avoid every single one of them.

The only advice you should be taking is from people using the network in the same area as you want to.
#22
I guess you have to have an unlocked dongle, you cant put it in a 3 modem I already have?
#23
Cheap and simple if you just need data without a contract. I'm on one of the good old deals with 3, £7.50 p/month for 5gb data :)

Except that they also have the IMEI of your mobile broadband device, so you'd have those to burn too - and you'd have to buy your dongles and sims anonymously - not something that's going to happen with an Amazon purchase.

Hi,
As a couple of users have asked can you advise how to use this? Can I just use a 3 dongle and/or can anyone recommend where to get one?
Cheers
#27
ordered one to check signal at my local college and will then probably order another 5, this is a top post and i was nearly going to be tying down to the £12 or so for 5gb on a contract per month

Not true if you use a mail box address and a prepaid credit card. Totally anonymous.

Yes, this gives you mobile Internet access on your laptop or tablet. You have to get a dongle like the one listed here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003NVHXEO/ref=nosim/?tag=hotukdeals-21

and then stick the data preload SIM into the dongle and then the dongle into the usb port on your laptop. Simple.

If that's your idea of anonymous then I hope you are doing anything too dodgy!

Can this be used outside of the UK?

I don't think its supposed to work overseas, though my SIM did roam in France for day perfectly fine with no additional credit on it. Though I think that was a glitch rather than the norm so your success may vary.

Using abroad

If you read 3's website they say the preloaded data SIMS are capable of being used abroad BUT can only work abroad if topped up in addition to the existing data that's preloaded (1,3 or 12GB preloaded SIMS that they offer) On my preloaded 3 dongle when I check the data balance online is shows data as well as a £ top up balance which you'd normally not have in use unless you've used up the preloaded data and have done a top up later.

It seems that the preloaded credit won't/can't be used abroad and a paid for top up (even if your current data quata is unused) is required. It's expensive, £3 per mb in the USA I seem to recall. Probably bit better in Europe!

Use Mobile Broadband abroad
You can connect to the internet in more than 100 countries using Three Mobile Broadband. There are a few things you need to know before you start using your dongle or MiFi modem abroad.

If you have a Pay As You Go dongle or MiFi modem:

•Your account is already activated for international roaming.
•You will need to top-up your account with credit before you go away.
•Any usage is not included in the standard Mobile Broadband Add-ons.
•All usage abroad will be billed from your account credit, and not from any active Add-ons.
•You can top-up your account in the usual way using My3, but don't convert this credit to an Add-on as you normally would if you plan to use this credit for data roaming abroad.
•You can find out how much it will cost to use your dongle or MiFi modem abroad here.

It takes time to figure out what exactly applies but looking into using my 3 preloaded dongle in the USA would mean a fairly big top up to go alongside my preloaded data allowance. I recently got a couple 1Gb preloaded '3' sims from Amazon (similar deal to this one) and will try in the US without any top up loaded. and as I got the preloaded SIM from Amazon it's not currently on 3's system as belong to my existing 3 account.

I work all over the country and in my opinion three are the best network. I have used orange, vodafone, o2, t mobile and three and not only is three the quickest, but they block far less things than the other providers, things like the bbc iplayer work which is unusual. Only problem with three is theu have no 2g network to fall back on if you are in a very rural area. Having said that, I live in a rural staffordshire village, and only three (and t mobile, who share 3g networks) have 3g coverage.

Apart from the SIM number which will trace your account, or using the 3Connect software to see your account number or mobile number, or reading the documentation in the SIM pack to find the number, or maybe even Google it.

Good work though ;-)
