For those of you just looking for a 1 month contract SIM to browse with, this is ideal. I've been looking around and can't really find better than 1 GB for a fiver.

Well that's the point, can't find another SIM that lets you surf for a fiver :)

Any cashback?

Think cashback is limited to their £10+ per month SIM only.
#4
The only thing i dont like about these is that they let you go over the 1gb and then charge you, this is why I am on PAYG for this.
#5
Agreed it would be very easy to go over 1gb and then rack up some serious charges, how much do they charge when you go over?

You can check your usage on My3 at anytime for exactly 0 MB (free). Three also warn you when you're about to go over. 1 GB is also quite a large amount of data for a mobile device.

It's perfect for low users and a good price, but I think they will hope many go over at 30p a meg!

If you went over by an additional gig for example it's 1024 x 30p so £307 !

Like I said, Three send you a text when you're about to go over and you can check you're usage online so you'd have to have lost your marbles if you go over by that much. :p

But a deal is a deal and like I said you'll struggle to find 1 GB SIM only internet for £5.

can't believe an identical contract for ipad sim costs twice as much...

You could always just get this SIM and trim it if you consider yourself a bit practical :)
#11
I've voted hot, but I know some poor people will go over, like I tell my wife when the free call times are but the bill is always massive!
#12
This has been like this for a while, but still a great deal.

Just be warned.

I have a Three dongle. I have previously had T-Mobile and Vodafone dongles.

On other networks, if you drop your 3G connection, it drops down to GPRS. Because Three buy their GPRS from Orange (I think?) they won't allow you GPRS with this SIM. They changed this policy just after I bought my dongle for them (Previous HUKD where it was only £5 a month anyway)
#13
excellent!
i got an iphone contract with a 1gb fair use policy, i never use more then 200mb / month with very "heavy" usage including mails, browsing and some app downloads
also use the occasional webradio and voip to make calls internationally for free :p

so can you not put this sim in a dongle?

Think your better off with a standard payg sim and adding the £5 monthly internet add on,that way if you do go over you will not get a nasty bill, plus you will get the free txt message allowaance.

Fair point, but this does have free voicemail in its favour. Also you don't have the hassle of having to make sure you don't end up running out of credit but for some people that's a big advantage. Depends on the person really.
#18
Hot Hot Hot, if you order this they will swap it free for a micro sim, so I have been told, I have had mine since Jan 2010 on this tariff with no problems, I don't download movies or songs, I use the wifi for that.
great post ;)

O2 which have pretty weak coverage in my area. That deal is also only valid till October, after that you'll be forking out £10.

Could this be used in their mifi?
#23
great once you get signal.

Three are one of the few 'good guys' in allowing you to put a contract credit limit on the phones - my kids phone £10 a month has credit limit (£0) applied then when he does somethink stupid like premium rate text its stopped - never get a bill more than £10. So you may be able to ask for credit limit of £5 to be applied.

I'd like to know too as I have MiFi on 3.

Can't say for definite on this deal. However, I used to have a Three dongle with a contract sim in it; then I bought one of the MiFi adapters, and moved the SIM into that, no problem at all. I'd asked the sales person up front if it would work, and they confirmed that it would.

Again, can't say 100% that the same would apply this time, but I had no issues moving a SIM from dongle to MiFi

Would that be 500MB of 'unlimited internet', after which you can buy more 'unlimited internet'? --- Actually it looks like it might be truely unlimited!.

Is unlimited really unlimited?
The answer is yes, we are unlimited for personal mobile use - but not for commercial and automated use. Mobile Internet allowances exclude PC use and tethering.

Free Mobile Internet:
You lucky giffgaff pioneers can even enjoy free UK mobile Internet up to the 1st of October 2010. After that date, mobile Internet will be charged at 50p a day (if you use less than 2.5MB/day you'll pay less than 50p and if you go over 30MB you'll be charged extra at 20p/MB).

Giffgaff is currently better value?

Free sim, topup £10 to activate then you got free internet until they start charging.

----

Edit:

And then as Athia below has pointed out you use your £10 to pay for goodybags (like boltons etc) which also include free internet.

To clarify the posts above, there's currently two separate ways of getting internet on Giffgaff:

a) Free mobile internet, available for everyone but limited at 100MB a day, because they currently don't have the infrastructure to charge for mobile internet (until October).

b) Unlimited (yes, really unlimited) mobile internet, available as part of their 'Goodybags' (which are currently half price).

i got a similarly priced deal with three about 2 or 3 years ago, i had to sign up for 18 months at £5 per month for 1gb and got a free dongle. i've got cable internet at home so only used it for the odd times i'm away from home or if my home internet is down. i've found the service pretty great

one thing you can do with three, which i've done myself, is you can limit your account so you won't be charged if you go over your data allowance. i check with this recently, they said there are some things they can't stop, such as data roaming outside the uk, but you need to be mad to data roam with current prices, far better finding wifi hotspots in hotels and places like mcdonalds

a couple of weeks ago i got a letter from three offering me either a new faster dongle if i agreed to stick with them for 12 months, or the mifi for 18 months, and i could keep the same service and price, so still paying £5 and got a free mifi, which is a pretty cool device. you can even set it up as a hidden network, password protect it of course, and you can log into it and see a number of stats, such as data usage. it also has a micro sim socket, so you can stick a memory card in the dongle and access the data via wifi. i've not yet tried that as i'm waiting on play delivering a card i ordered last week

i've seen a few people complaining about three, but also a lot saying it's great. i suppose it depends on the quality of service in your area. they usually have a crappy selection of phones, but 3g and hsdpa in my area and other areas i usually go to is pretty impressive, it's faster than my cable internet was a few years ago

If you are looking for a sim card just for browsing check out the Virgin mobile PAYG sim. You can pay £5 a month for unlimited, or just pay 30p a day for the days you access. I'm never really that far from my PC but find having the option of unlimited internet for 30p on the days when i'm out and about.

you can cut this sim and put it if your ipad.. this is half the price of the official ipad sim contract... i did the t-mobile sim broadband cut and it worked perfectly - it takes about two minutes to do.. ridiculously easy..

If you can survive with 50MB a month (low I know, but if you don't have a smartphone and use tethering sparingly, it is perfectly usable), a standard 3 payg sim will have 150MB of allowances plus 300 texts and unlimited 3to3 mins for 3 months every time you topup £10. Works out £3.33 a month for 50MB, 100 texts and unlimited 3to3.

I just use my phone to check prices on Amazon which only cost about 22KB each. A couple times I used my phone for tethering, which used up considerably more data especially since one time Windows update started downloading 40MB worth of updates without my consent or my knowledge (task bar was hidden)!

How do i get that 30p a day mobile internet access? Does it get deducted from your credit or do I need to buy internet access package? Thanks in advance.

I'm also more interested in the virgin PAYG deal now :) 30p a day is perfect for random out of contact netbook usage, and worst case scenario only adds up to about £10 a month! :)
#39
Ah i see now its this:
http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/vm/genericContent.do?contentId=payasyougo.our.tariff.shop.sm285
And you need to top up £10 a month to use the 30p a day unlimited (25mb max) deal. So in reality its not so great :) The giffgaff deal aint so bad for £5 a month, but again, i wont even get £5s worth out of it every month, i need some decent payg deal really... There are few and far between!

Are ipad's region locked? as I could recommend my mate who lives in Spain to do this with a local PAYG sim.
