Grab it while you can - apparently 3 are phasing out the unlimited data plans.

The phone has to be a 3G capable phone, so a cheap 99p phone won't do it. What make and model do you have in mind?

Yes, that's ending next month, unless you're on a fixed 1 year or 2 year contract. If you're on such a contract with time to run on it, then they'll allow the contract to run to term. After that, you'll be kicked off it. If you're on a rolling monthly One Plan deal, they'll move you off it in January 2015.

The trouble with a rolling deal like this is that 3 can move you off it at any time, whereas with a fixed term deal, they can't move you until your time is up. They could kill off your deal tomorrow, and you'd be powerless to do anything about it.

Probably confusing it with '3' tethering policy in Jan

Samsung Mini S3

That's fine, that phone will work with a 3 sim, as long as it's definitely unlocked.

agree, been on contracts with orange and 02 and both are equally rubbish for coverage particularly coastal regions. They all seem to think we live in central London

Im practically in the same situation...I had availed Of the Samsung S3 £18/month 2 years ago...offering a pittance sim offer in its place :(

isn't this a standard tariff they've had since July or am I mistaken?

They have phased that out this but they don't take it away from people who have it already at the moment. For now as long as you dont stop that sim deal you should be fine. I did stop mine but that was because I needed to reduce expenditure and needed much more call time than data allowance. I'm on £10 a month for 500 minutes, 1G Data and tethering and 3k texts. I don't need much data now but if I do ever I can get an add on for when that ever happens.

Sorry, but this is not true. If you are on a fixed term contract with time to run on it, you'll be allowed to complete your contract to its term. For example, if you got a 2 year One Plan deal a year ago, or a 12 month fixed term contract, with time to run on it, this contract will be allowed to run its course. However, a 30 day rolling plan is only fixed for 30 days, and can be cancelled after that time. 1apple is on a 30 day rolling plan and has no security of contract. That plan will end next month, and they'll not be allowed to keep it.

The PAYG option is 3000 texts, not unlimited, but I doubt that'll put anyone off.

Begs the question, why would anyone sign-up to a 12-month contract when the PAYG option is less hassle and doesn't tie you in?

Because the 30 day payg option can be taken away at any time by 3, whereas if you sign up to a longer deal, they can't remove it, and put you on a less favourable deal.

also you can't tether on pay as you go (officially)
