Hmm. Not sure what to think about 10 speed. I mean, obviously if you are getting a bike with Tiagra it is a budget bike so I would have thought you would upgrade to 105 just to save i
#2
I brought this yesterday, didn't know what different ratio to change to and only tiagra had the one I currently have, otherwise I'd have gone higher

Are 105 10 speed cassettes £12 at 12-30?

just spent £35 (standard retail) on a 105 12-28 for a bit of an emergency with the commuter bike (repalcing a tiagra).. so this seems pretty good value

Tiagra is mid range (above Claris and Sora) and lets not forget that this years Tiagra employs last years 105 tech (trickle down) so it also depends on what Tiagra groupset we're speaking of. Great value post.

Last years 105 is 5700, isn't Tiagra the old 5600? That's more like 2010.

For a turbo trainer wheel, it doesn't really make sense to spend anything more. The only significant difference between Tiagra,105, even Ultegra and Dura Ace cassettes is the weight and quality of materials. Neither of these makes any difference whatsoever whilst sweating it out in front of your TV. Just make sure that you use a fresh cassette that won't put undue wear on the chain, and a wheel that's roughly round and true, ideally with a trainer tyre fitted and your good to go. Anybody using a good wheel, cassette or tyre for turbo duties has more money than sense!

Good spot OP, just ordered one for mine.

Sorry. My phone cut off the end of my comment.
Essentially what I meant was that you may as well go to 11 speed 105 nowadays since that is where group sets are going now. Saves in the log run. They were really cheap at Wiggle the other day.

This is the 4600 and a perfectly decent 10 speed cassette. The 105 is a fraction lighter and a fraction smoother but whether most of us would notice is open to question.

Not really a deal though as virtually all the on-line retailers are charging the same price, or even a couple of pence cheaper at Pro Bike Kit.

Next Tiagra will be based on 5700, sora on 4600, 10 speed isn't going anywhere.

if you have a 10 speed groupset and need a new cassette are you suggesting people upgrade the whole thing rather than spend £12 on a new cassette?

Only difference between Tiagra and 105 cassettes is a couple of grams, now real benefit in getting 105 for these or chains (shifters, cranks etc are a different story)

5700 is 105 not Ultegra

Only real difference is weight, not really worth paying more than double the price

My mistake Ultra 6700 10 speed, still £29.99 though ;-)

My road bike has a 105/Tiagra Mix. The cassette being Tiagra. It sounds like a Raliegh Chopper clicking away when free wheeling.

that's the freehub, not the cassette making the noise. nothing wrong with 10 speed at all. its great value for money at the moment.

Ditto, you can get quiet freehubs, but they cost some serious money.
