Firstly I have heard before that you can only get a decent deal from Virgin's retentions department if your contract is up, my contract is not up for another month but I called them today anyway to see what they would say, at the moment I have a 2MB Broadband and Phone Line with talk weekends free package that costs me £28.99 a month.

The guy I spoke to said he could bring that down to £15.00 (or £15.50 without eBilling discount) Price guaranteed for 12 months - Bargain - + that was immediate too even though my existing contract doesn't end for another month.

Well worth a call to 150 if you are paying quite a bit like I was regardless of which package you have.

Guessing you can only do this if you are at the end of/nearing the end of your contract?
#2
Well mine isn't up for a month but the discount he's applied is immediate from today so worth a go.

Guys,

Just a word of caution. Check your bills on a regular basis. So far I have negotiated my price down - once was a lifetime offer and the other was a 12 month offer. On the first occassion I noticed that my bill went up again (I pay by DD) - I complained and got told that my the deal was a 3 month offer only - I had to negotiate a new deal. This one was supposedly a 12 month deal but 3 months later I noticed the same thing again.

You just need to be vigilant.

What. In. The. HELL.

For the past few months, I've been paying a whopping 70 quid for:

TV XL + SPORTS
2 MB Broadband
Talk Unlimited
Line Rental

A couple of days ago, I called up their Retentions team, and managed to get it cut to 50 pounds per month, including the 75 quid one-off V+ box offer.

But now that you've said that is what I could potentially get for the 70 I used to pay, I'm thinking I got swindled!

Any suggestions on how I could get a deal such as yours?
I've been with Virgin for many years now, since the days of ntl.
#7
Just got off the phone to them, spoke to really helpful guy, cut long story short, wouldn't reduce my monthly charge but got V+Box for 25 quid so not complaining:thumbsup:
#8
I don't get the Virgin bills... They say they're reducing the bills, yet last time (for 12 months) they said they did they added a £22 'Current Balance Brought Froward' charge to every bill. They also didn't actually seem to reduce anything, just a 'Winback' discount showing and no discount seemingly being included.

The best part it is they also charge £5 extra every month because I can't let them take the money directly out of my bank each month. :x

Weird that people are discussing this as I thought it was common knowledge. I pay £26.95 a month for talk unlimited and 20MB BB and have been on about half their advertised prices for years now. You do not have to be out of contract.

Just ring retentions and state you want to leave and you get all kinds of deals thrown at you. Sometimes you have to get near to disconnection and they ring you up with a deal if retentions dont initially offer you a deal to your liking.

When virgin lost sky sports news and sky one back in feb / mar I phoned up and got a cracking deal

i was on

m phone
m tv
xl broadband
standard box

for £48 but add on another £5 - £10 per month on phone calls

my new deal is

l bb
xl tv
xl phone
sky sports
sky movies
v+ box
standard box

all for £56 per month, this did take a few moaning phone calls to achieve though:whistling:

:-D :-D :-D

yeh been doing this for some time now whn i was with ntl and now vm.....you have to check your bills regularly...VM staff also lie

they rang me to offer me a deal...but i wasnt totally sure if the caller was genuine or a fraudster so rang them back on 150 and asked for the person....they were from vm so ok...

anyway they offered me xl tv for no extra charge, so 36/mth for xl bb, xl phone, xl tv with a no obligation contract...so went for it...

next mths bill showed id been charged 64.95! so rang them and they denied all knowledge of the deal....i then advised them that i worked on a freelance basis for a telco company and i would report them to ofcom if they didnt refund the overcharge...which they quickly did

the operator couldnt get me the deal.....in the end after some time we agree on 40.50 for xl bb, xl phone, xl tv......on one condition - it was in writing.....which they sent...so now they cant lie

i did state that this is not the way to do business and they almost lost my business with their constant lies!

I have to admit I keep wanting to leave as their CS is awful these days but I'm on 20mb broadband and standard line rental for £25pm which keeps me here! Saying that, I think my 12 months are up now and I might see if I can knock it down a bit more.
#13
I can confirm that in my case deals agreed on the phone are not reflected in bills and I wold advise subscribers to check bills carefully.

Sky Plus (currently £29 plus £30 installation via Currys) is a much better option in my view for TV.
#14
After threatning to leave last year I have just the 20 meg bb for £20. Whats the point in paying for a land line, rip off tv etc if you have a good connection? Also, why do people get excited about lifetime deals lol, communications get cheaper every year don't they?
#15
I made sure I took the guys full name today so that if the deal doesn't happen at least I have some comeback.
#16
Tried twice now and they wont budge for me @ £42 for:

XL TV
XL Phone
L BB
Line Rental

Id be happy if i got the XL BB for the same price as what im paying, they wont have none of it though which im gutted about.
Also it seems if you mention some of the deals posted here they deny all knowledge of them and say theres no way any1 can offer that sort of deal ?? Are peeps over exagerating what they get or do Virgin staff only respond to someone being angry and threatening to leave ? I have always been polite.

Update on my deal from last week..

Last Friday I called VM as I wanted to save some cash and get all my services from one place.

Was offered:

TV L, BB L, PH M for £42 and V+ for £75
Then in 1 month I upgrade to TV XL and prices reduces to £37

Anyway, having read the deals on here and also checking Sky's offerings I just called retentions and haggled a bit.

Now I get:

TV XL from the start, BB L, PH XL all For £39.50 and still getting V+. Was also offered an additional standard box for £5/mth which I didn't bother with as I don't know where we'd put one! He did also mention the "rumoured" upgrade from 4mb to 10mb but he couldn't provide a timeframe for that.

Quite pleased as for an extra £2.50 I've gone from M to XL phone and saved £5 from the first months rental.

I will of course be checking my bills. I do have the guys name and also he told me the package he had offered me was a standard retentions deal but the upgrade to PH XL was costing me the extra few quid.

Worth the call... which was free cos I went to http://www.saynoto0870.com/ and got their 0800 number :)

Virgin mobile are starting a new customer retention programme from the 1st Feb so you'll get a better deal nearer that time.
#19
keep an eye on your bills because i have twice negotiated cheaper deals only to find they never actually kick in and virgin then deny agreeing to the deals anyway..ie THEY CALL YOU A LIAR.
#20
Has anyone had experience with 'Current Balance Brought Forward' charges with VM???
#21
I've been with Virgin Media for about 9 or 10 months and I pay £20 for 8mb broadband and unlimited phone calls. I don't think the OP was given a special deal he has just been given the same price any new customer would pay. Very unfair that Virgin don't reduce your payments automatically when they change the prices of their packages though.

Quite correct and they will not answer mail sent to their customer service I have had a running argument with them since July when I was offered top BB and M TV at £27 when I received the bill I was charged full amount.
Now that I have told them I am leaving when contract is up, they could not be nicer.
But *** them. I was a telewest customer for years, ner a problem. Branson and his mob interfere slower speeds, wonky bills and they charge you for sneezing.
No thanks BT would be better than this mob!!!!!

BT are the biggest bunch of shysters in the UK. Try their sales telno and you'll get through in 1 minute. Try their customer services line and you'll be on the line for hours. Just try them. A truly shocking company these days.

I am very happy with £15 a month for what I have as it's all I need, the fact I am no longer a new customer and am getting "new customer" prices is a good saving IMO.

Don't get me started on BT, worst company in the UK without a doubt, zero customer service, they never log your calls so each time you call you have to explain the whole scenario over and over.

Thanks to the op, called 150 and through to retentions. First idiot I spoke to denied all knowledge of the £15.00 special offer, she won't budge on the £19.50 for Broadband M, telephone M which I've been on since July.

I rang again and got through to an asian guy who agreed to put me on the £15.00 one year package without question.

Interesting, so that's proof that you don't have to be at the end or nearing the end of your contract to get a deal, I wish I would have phoned them ages ago now as I have been paying £29 for 11 months.
#27
The £19.50 package (includes 50p e bill discount) was not on a contract. I remember asking about the length of the contract and was told there wasn't one.

However, this new £15.00 package is on a 12 month contract and will revert back to the normal £19.50 after 12 months.

blimey! You should be paying £17.99 for that.

i pay 15 a month for adsl broadband at 8mb and get evening and weekend calls for free as i work in the day times, and that is all i have ever paid along with the bt line rental. never had a problem with bills or the like and noticed the other day they now offer a free wireless router when you join so i rang them and said the normal free modem had broke and would like to go wireless so they sent me a netgear modem/router for free. no complaints from me at all with that sort of service

I'm paying £25 for 4MB BB and have been for 12 months, even though we should've been on a deal. We should be getting another deal for BB/phone that totals up to around £27, the same as the guy you responded. :/

What BB/phone package would you recommend going for from another BB supplier? I'm going to keep my BB until I find another ISP if the upcoming deal turns out to be bull.

This may be a stupid question, so apologies in advance, but do all the prices that people are quoting on this thread include BT line rental? Reason I ask is cos I think I am being royally shafted. I currently pay £25 quid for Broadband size L and £11 for Telephone line rental - total £36.

Am I right? Are Virgin shafting me? (no pun intended:whistling: )

Sounds like you are being well and truly shafted!

You don't pay BT a penny when you are with Virgin as they provide your phoneline, the £15 I quoted in my original post includes line rental with Virgin and Broadband.
#37
I'm the same - £25 for BB L (4 MB), £11 line rental, £3.70ish free talk on weekend, £5 payment handling (joke) + any extra phone costs, which usually add up to a lot because my mom phones my nan lots. Virgin also have added on a £22 'Balance Brought Forward' charge ever since my mother (she uses the phone, I use internet) got a deal with them, which made zero sense.

We have supposedly got a new deal for £27 all in starting next month. I can't see it somehow after the previous rip-off 'deal' that made it more expensive. Simply put, Virgin are utter ***** with CS based in India.

I'm only staying with Virgin for now because Telewest were my first ISP. I don't know about modem/router/wireless stuff or any of the rest, so I'm kinda worried about changing. I'll have no choice about changing with these bills if it continues into the new year.

I'm also with Virgin Media and my bank has refused to accept my application to pay their bills by direct debit so i'm also paying that £5 a month as well!

I use Virgin Media 20mb BB, I put a splitter into the line and then use a PCTV capture card with an inbuilt decoder or sorts, which allows one to watch all sorts of premium channels/events at no charge.

^^

Does that do away with the need for the set top box then?

So you just need to pay for the broadband and not TV, or do you have to get a basic TV package?
