Just for heads up, that the Intel Penryn 45nm Core 2 Duo Mobile CPU should be available on 6th of January next year, so if you're expecting a notebook for Christmas prepare to have it superseded soon after. The new range should be cheaper than their predecessors.

That is always the case, but at a mid-range level I very much doubt that you would see the difference (or care) that the new processors makes.

New intel chipset expected mid 2008 as always to complement the new processors. That should be more interesting.

Can I ask a very basic question - apart from colour is this any different from the high spec Dell Vostro 1700 that was recently posted:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119640&highlight=dell+vostro+1700

In other words If I wanted a three year warranty and wasn't bothered by the painted silver finish would the vostro be the way to go?

Compare the specs, this has quite a few plus's over the Vostro but is a little more expensive.
Do you need 2 hard drives, better graphics, bluetooth...

Hard for someone else to tell you which to buy.

Thanks Mike - if the build quality is the same then it does seem that it's essentially the extra hard disk and bluetooth that set it apart in terms of components. Looking at past deals I think I'll wait and see if this deal comes up again - I'd rather have the high res screen:
