As per title, the TomTom 720T is available instore at Halfords for £149.99. I believe the 720 (without traffic) is available for £139.99.

You can update this for free to 730T features via TomTom home, so this is a bargain as 730Ts are £240+.

Id also add that when you say upgrade for free to the 730T it really is that simple, the only difference between the two is the colour! That said there is a 740T out now isnt there?
#3
Beware of the wording "new maps and free software upgrades". That is not the same as "free new maps and free software upgrades". The difference between the 720T, which I have and the 730T includes newer maps, which you have to pay for.

In my grubby little hands, I have the leaflet that came with it. It says:
Latest Map Guarantee. Check www.tomtom.com/latestmap if there is a more recent map available and download it at no charge, using the code printed in this leaflet. Offer valid for 30 days from the date you start using your TomTom Go.

That was the 520 with no traffic.... this is the 720 with traffic... :whistling:

Have edited my post to fix it! Sorry about that.

Definitely hot, although if you are going to illegally download the update to 730, why not just buy the 520 and download the maps too?

I've deleted my post. The upgrade isn't illegal though, as per TomTom's site for the latest map:

"With this map you can navigate door-to-door anywhere in 32 countries across Western & Central Europe. More than 80,000km of new road and 11,000 new POI have been added since the last release & Bulgaria now benefits from detailed coverage. Detailed coverage of the following countries now exists: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Hungary, Monaco, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Republic of Ireland, the Netherlands, the Canary Islands and the Vatican City. Other Eastern European Countries (including Russia) are covered by an connector network of major roads. This map includes new IQ Routes data offering improved routing for your TomTom GO"

Thanks for that.

Be wary though... because up until last week, you were not entitled to IQ Routes etc. Interesting. TomTom should really offer it, but as far as I knew (up until about a week ago), they did not give the new features.

The 720 is exactly the same as the 730 other than the black bezel.
#10
Not exactly the same. To be fair, the 730 has 4GB internal flash memory plus a SDHC socket. The 720 has only 2GB internally plus the SDHC socket.
#11
Does this come with the 2008 TMC receiver or the older version? Is there any difference between the two receivers?
#12

So can you get updated software too? I really like the lane guidance in the x30T series. If I buy a 720T, can I upgrade it to be the same as a 730T free???
#16
Just been to store in Derby and was advised the 720T had been discontinued for ages - chap was trying his hardest to suppress a smirk bless him... Seems to be pot luck...

Yes. Although the traffic receiver on the 730T is newer i believe(model 9V00.101), 720T comes with model 9V00.017(older).

Thanks for that. So do I have to buy a new reciever? If not, are there any advantages to the new revciever? If I update a 720T, will it basically become exactly the same as a 730T which is also upgraded? ie. lane guidance etc?

Sorry for all the questions!
#21
All, I bought this yesterday from the Halfords store in Worksop (Nottinghamshire) for the price advertised, the bloke told me that this offer is on at all stores its just a matter of wether they have any in stock or not. I have connected it all up and yes you can update to the latest software and maps, this is complete with IQ routes and Advanced Lane Guidance. so in all this is a fantastic deal you are getting a TomTom fully upto date and future proof, a decent model (there are a lot lower) for £150 in my opinion an absolute bargain. thanks

Yes you do get the lane guidance.
#23
Brilliant! I couldn't find a 720T anywhere locally. Someone bought one in Worksop.....! But the 920T is £199 if anyone's interested. There seem to be more of those around.

Noo, not only because isn' in stock at my local store, also because the 720 doesn't use the latest 2008 Traffic USB receiver but only the old one which has lots of bad feedback....

Ok, so find me a cheaper TomTom with European maps, with or without the traffic receiver? The 2008 version of the traffic receiver is under £20, so even if you binned/sold the old one and bought the new receiver, it's still a good deal.

Its a 50/50 on the feedback some say good some say not good down to personal experience in my opinion, as I guess that you dont have either and are relying on others reviews you are in no position to vote cold! deal is still good as you dont have to use the tmc!:whistling:

I have the Tomtom 720 and bought the new 2008 TMC from Amazon at £17.99 (deal posted on UKHD) and with a simple unpdate from the Tomtom site it works like a dream.
#28
not voted but would not buy tom tom. tried a 920t - - - infact i had four! All dreedfull. either the bluetooth did not work or they would lock-up. tt help no good either.
maps poor and i could not trust them.
Got my money back and bought another from a different company, cheaper and 100% better.
I know people like TT but this is only my opinion.
Even the wifes cheap and cheerful from sainsburys (thanks to this site) is much better.
BTW i use mine everyday, i cover over 100k a year so they are well tested.
#29
ive got a 520 and the hands free and blue tooth are excellent. The music side of things are great for what it does as well. this is a great deal :)
#30
Tomtom gui is outdated ( same look for ages ), been going for years.
Get a Navigo 895 ( has bluetooth but no TMC ) and put IGO8 software on it ( look around its out there ).
Latest software ( IGO 8.3.1 ) has lane guidence and is much better than tomtom ****.
#31
Hi is there anyway to update the Tom Tom 910, to get lane guidance and Map share ;-)

Voted hot:thumbsup:
#32
I must say that Lane Guidance can be a real help .
Going into a city you don't know , in the rush hour, or one of those complex
junctions, it can really prove it's worth.
I have it with Navigon software/maps.

Many thanks for that, but having the 910 I just can’t justify buying another satnav :-D
