Hi,

I haven't got a clue about sat navs but i've tried to justify getting one.... Does this have the speed camera warning & do you have to pay for any subscription or can it be updated for free over the net? Is this better than the Tom Tom One? Probably stupid questions so sorry if i'm wasting someones time

Alerts you that you’re speeding, even if you're not in navigation mode. Receive and report alerts when there are safety cameras coming up, fixed or mobile.

TomTom One has 3.5" screen copared to 4" widescreen for 510 :)

This was all the rage at Christmas...2006 ;) It's not a current unit at all. Released in early 2006. A good unit but fairly poor considering the mapping.

If this has V7 maps then yes it's worth it. This has been replaces by the 520 (which i got last week for 180 from amazon with TMC reviever) and even that is to be replaced with the 530 in April!

The 530 like the panasonics has lane assistant!

Bit fat compared to the 720 ? - can the 720 not be updated to do the same thing (only advantage is street name calling and the remote) ?
#11
You can hack/update these so they have most if not all the features from the newer x20 range, i've got it playing mp3s, reading street names, custom car icons and v7 maps

Good price.....don't forget to check out currys and PC World for genuine trims and other bits like Ipod cables, etc......the trims go from anywhere between 1p (yes 1p bought one myself) and 97p. Ipod cables around £9.97 or cheaper. Also Amazon regularly sell the deluxe leather case for these abount the £3.00 price...got one of them as well, really nice quality :)

Just waiting for the TMC receiver to reduce to a reasonable level now....still vastly over priced at £69.99 at most places in my opinion.

Speed camera alerts £19.00 a year but it’s well worth it:thumbsup:

Do you mean this?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000W3H2A6

I bought a 520 last week & got a £17 reduction off the total price when addding in the above RDS-TMC to the basket as the same time as buying the TomTom 520 Music edition. Therefore essentially you're getting the Traffic module for about £20.

Also the TomTom music edition comes with a £10 itunes voucher inside which I flogged on Ebay for £8.50!!

Therefore the effective price for the TomTom 520 & Traffic module came to about £184.00 delivered.

I bought at christmas a TomTom Go 720 (But gives speed camera alerts so must be a 'T'!) for £153 from PC World price match.:w00t:

Must have been a bargain:-D

That is a bargain, but the speed camera alerts doesn't make it a 'T'...(they all do that)...the 'T' gives you traffic/congestion info/updates.

The GO 510 comes with Major roads of europe and not comprehensive streetlevel maps. If your wanting to navigate your way round Sweden you'll be after a TomTom GO 710, which is also available to buy refurbished....................... but i can't tell you where because i'll get busted :whistling:
