Seems to be cheapest (At least from the big sites), might be today only, but seems a very good price for a unit that can be upgraded to 530 software easily (same units, different bezels/software). Latest map guarantee means the age isn't important - they will upgrade it online.

What is the differance between this one and say: TomTom ONE XL V2

If the 520 is better, how is it better?
#2
The 520 has bluetooth, meaning you can connect your phone to it for handsfree calls and texts (it'll read your texts out to you) if your phone is compatible (see the tomtom website).

It supports traffic updates over you phone's bluetooth connection (for a fee).

Also has an FM transmitter built in meaning you can upload MP3s (or connect an iPod) and play them through your car stereo.

its also a faster processor, more RAM so its a lot quicker to refresh etc, and has built in space for maps etc, as well as a sd slot.

Cool I see!

So if I connect my phone (N73) to the 520..how does my phone know what the traffic is doing? Or is it a case of buying a modern phone..

Cheers for the info though!

You use the data connection provided by your phone/service provider - voda/tmob etc - to download the traffic info from tomtom's servers - you pay both tomtom for the service, and data used to your telco.

I see! that's no good then, I don't want to pay them for that!

I see on ebay you can get a RDS adapter for tomtom devices that gives you free traffic info for life!
( I will assume the free data is not so comprehensive).

I'm looking for a reason to spend money on tomtom device that will actually provide more functionaity than either my N73 with tomtom mobile or my O2 XDA II (with a 400mhz XScale with Turbo mode making it more like 500mHz).

its generally exactly the same data - but the RDS/TMC receiver is very very poor and struggles to get a signal.
