About this deal
This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:
I bought an old TomTom a few months ago and the maps are 4 years out of date, been waiting for the map updates to reduce on the website which they now have - no idea how long for.
UK & Ireland = £14.95
Europe = £19.95
These maps used to be £40-£50!!!
Also with the voucher code Welcome15_uk you get £8 off.
So that is £6.95 for UK maps and £11.95 (which I have just bought) for Europe Maps. No only that these are the Map Update service ones so you get 4 maps updates free for a year.
Amazing Deal, go on the TomTom site yourself and select your device!!!
Sorry no screenshot just bought as quick as I could. Direct download.
Quidco - 4.5% cashback
- mamadonnmu
As other user suggested, please take note if you paid using Paypal Tomtom will setup pre-approved payment.
"Hermen
great deal - i paid by paypal but then noticed - tom-tom had set up a reoccurring payment plan ? cancelled it in any case - guessing it maybe authorising them to take payment again in 12 months but at full price without notice ?? "

I agree that that standard prices could be more competitive, but can't see how you can object to paying anything at all. There are costs involved in producing the updates, and like any business, TomTom offer their service / expertise to clients with a commercial margin applied.
?
Indeed. Plenty folks will click in as they have a SatNav, as you say.
They won't all be aware that the smartphone versions have now reached a point (did some time ago) that they're a match for dedicated SatNavs. But for free. This site is about saving money, so seems like a fair point to me.
1. Log into your PayPal account and go 'Summary'
2. Click on profile - a cog-like symbol
3. Scroll down to 'Payment Settings' and select 'Pre-Approved payment'
4. You will see active 'Pre-Approved' payments listed so select TomTom International B.V.
5. This will show the 'Billing Details' of the TomTom payment - select 'Cancel'
6. Confirm the cancellation
7. You will now see the Billing Details reflect the change you just made under 'Status'
Thanks to OP.
Completely disagree with this.
Used "Here Maps" (originally a Nokia selling point for Windows Phone - now available on 'Driod and iOS). Free. Worldwide maps. Works offline. Works great.
I used it in Spain when it was Windows only on a Lumia 920 and it worked great. Navigated me through Malaga, including all lane changes, slip roads, speed limits, etc etc. Never let us down. All over southern Spain with it. Same in Barcelona. And Prague (although the latter two were on foot and public transport, it still worked great). Great piece of free software.
Google maps and such is fine, but is limited without a data connection.
But with Here Maps, I can't understand why anyone (who uses a half decent smartphone - which is most people) pays for SatNav any more.

Please can we have just one sat nav thread where the smartphone fanboys don't make an appearance don't they get that if we clicked on this deal it's because it's relevant for us. We don't live under rocks and are completely aware of smartphones and the apps.
Make a real usable gps software FOR DRIVING and I will gladly put my tomtom in glovebox because I dont want to regulary downloads from torrents cracked maps just because they are soo damn expensive and my battery for it lasts like 20minutes max now... But still the usability cant be beaten by a phone!

Maybe treat your wife to a new one including lifetime updates and take all the stress away. I bought my current TomTom in 2007 at a far higher price than they are today, but still consider it one of my best purchases ever.
I prefer a standalone sat-nav - better maps, lane guidance, junction images etc... smartphones are okay, but just not as clear as a dedicated unit - and I use both, depending where I'm going.
Now how do I get a very cheap update for my Garmin
Why? Do you not think it costs a small fortune to keep mapping up to date?
To clarify some of the misinformation in this, and other posts, Here Drive on Nokia does not currently offer either lane guidance or road avoidance in the UK. Many will claim lane guidance is available for Here Drive, but that's because they live in other parts of Europe or America.
Lane guidance is a godsend if you're trying to negotiate an unfamiliar city during rush hour, for example. Avoiding part of a route can also be hugely helpful, as I recently found out when an unfamiliar country road I was travelling on was closed. If I'd had the Tomtom, I could have easily told it to avoid the road and it would have re-routed. With Here Drive, I could do little other than ignore it's instructions and guess based on road signs and where the compass was pointing.
I used a Tomtom GO510 for years, and abandoned it only because of disgust at Tomtom's rapacious map pricing structure (£65 for an updated map?!), but Nokia Drive at least, is not a perfect replacement... yet.
Thanks OP, voted hot.
Ref people saying free sat nav and maps on phones etc.. Not everyone wants to use their phone like that, some of us like a seperate device.. I know I do as I find it a lot better when out in my campervan.... Maybe I am old school, however I do have the other apps on my phone as a back up or for use when out biking and walking..
That is fine if you have paid at the outset for a device including lifetime updates. If you haven't I don't see how someone can complain about paying a fee for an update at a time of their choice.
Oh I see as in the supported life of the device
I would love to use 'Here', but intel based smartphones are not compatible with it, so trusty old tomtomtomtomtomtom for me !
Buy it thru the maps tab on the website.y One is not supported by drive but I was able to buy the map and enter the discount code online.
Lx
Not if UKIP get their way!
Smartphones even give up to date traffic info, up to date maps and lots more .. for FREE!!
Don't be fooled into this Fire Sale!
By the way, I have 2 Tom Tom's and one with lifetime maps - they were great, they have been overtaken by technology.
Not if your a delivery driver they won't be.
They had their time and prices were monopolised!!!
Now Google on smartphones!!
The USB port in cars usually do not provide enough current to be able to charge while using a phone as a sat nav. You might have better luck with a 12v USB charger/adapter (I use the Belkin 2.1A Dual USB Car Charger) that can provide much more, but the downside is you cannot then use the phone as a USB device in the car's entertainment system at the same time (e.g. for music).
Other factors: The actual phone/device (how much current it will at most draw regardless of usage) and the USB cable itself (you might want to consider a USB 'fast charge' cable). For example, a few years ago I tried using my Galaxy S3 as a sat nav and dashcam at the same time (gps+camera+screen on) but it was still draining battery regardless of what I did. Only fairly recently has it become more of a non-issue for such heavy usage (my Note 3 just about manages a slow charge in the same situation).
Looks like the market has provided the perfect solution for your issue then.
Surely this is just an example of how technology progresses. 8 years in modern terms is the equivalent of a century in the industrial era. TomTom were almost the only 'go to' brand for people who wanted to be early adopters in the mid 2000's, the new technology and virtual monopoly supported their prices, and people paid for it if they wanted it. Then a competitive market opens up, prices fall, the masses buy, and we are where we are today. It is no different to digital cameras, smart TV's etc etc. You either enjoy the benefits of a new technology before it becomes mainstream, pay the premium for it and accept it will be far cheaper in the future, or you wait and miss out on using it for 2 or 3 years.
I tried Here maps a while ago and found it to be rubbish. It didn't even lock onto the nearest road, it showed me driving alongside the road I was driving on, the maps were outdated and had missing roundabouts and it lost tracking, I found the experience so distracting and frustrating when trying to get to somewhere new I gave up on it.
TomToms may be older technology but they work very well.
If this is the case (and I'm not saying it is, check) then Tomom will use the same payment details supplied to purchase this 'OFFER' to renew the maps in future. At possibly a non-offer price!

I think that should work. You should get an email from paypal as well to confirm once it's cancelled.
I can get a round for four in Glasgow for £7!
Errr this thread is for a map update so why are you quoting Waze and data connections?
see post 273 in regards to second question
