not sure what the ticket price was on the XL but the checkout lady was surprised when it scanned at £80, so I assume it was much higher

I didn't buy one, as I already have a TomTom, the couple next to me at the counter did
when I heard the checkout lady say "it's scanned at £80.01 !" I asked what model it was..."One XL"
I could see the One V4 in the cabinet, behind the checkout, with a £72 price tag on it
there were more TomTom's, and other makes, in the cabinet but the price tags weren't visible

UPDATE: went back today to pick up an Xbox, while I was there I double checked the XL and it's now ticketed at £80.01 but it's actually a EUROPE 22 not UK & RoI so an even better deal
they had at least one left in stock plus the One V4s still in stock

whats the point, tomtom is on the iphone now
#6
Yeah, but who wants an iPhone? Imagine, a device where the user is not meant to be able to change the battery! I'll stick with my PocketPC.
Having said that, I would *like* a TT. Although I'm all in favour of devices converging, there's a strong argurment that TT on your iPhone, PocketPC or whatever is a bridge too far.

I'm not an expert on the TT model range - is this a better unit than the Tom Tom Classic on Amazon for £85 at the moment?

yeah, it may not have occurred to you, but not everyone has an iphone... so maybe, they, erm, I dunno, WANT a seperate device...???

Tomtom has been on windows mobile for ages.

Like it has been said, the standalone units have much better reception and can guide you with a lot clearer instructions (lane assist?) than the iphone app.

Bigger screen sizes, better car mountability and some extra features make the standalone models stand out to me.
Also the speaker on the tomtom is significantly better than the very poor iphone loudspeaker.

IMO GPS on a phone is similar to the cameras in phones - Good, itll do the job, but a standalone is miles better.

cool - could do with a new one seeing as though mine was robbed outta my car last night ....!!!

probs something to do with google announcing their new realtime nativation software - which incidently wiped alot of value of the shares of companies like tomtom, navman etc.

oh and it wiped the value of their shares because it is free....

Yep, that'll be the real reason. Still, the XL screen might still be a good reason to buy this particular model.

ok, went to Asda yesterday and bought 3, for family and a friend, they came up as error and the checkout lady had to search for them via the till by typing in "Tom Tom"
they only had UK & ROI left but have already upgraded them to IQ Routes software and compatible maps, no problems so far.
nice piece of kit and much larger screen than my TT One V2, which also runs IQR and Lane Guidence
will post copy of receipt later

Does anyone know if this is still going on and if any stores in Essex still stock them?

Tried the two in Basildon, but they either don't have any or the One was back over £100 again.. :(

I'm preparing myself for a slating for asking this, but... What and why is TomTom so much better than your run o' the mill SatNav?!?

And I don't have an iPhone just in case anyone wondered! Heheh!
