Hopefully, this is much improved over the TMC for the X10 range.

We used the TMC with a 510 on a drive from Liverpool to Paris and it was useless on the drive to Dover. It didn;t kick in until Warrington, worked until Birmingham then stopped until quite close to Dover. When it did work, it warned of traffic congestion that wasn't there and then didn't warn us about the 3 spots that were.

Still, at £10 it may be worth a try.

Voted warm based on experience

plenty available in the west midlands
#4
Plenty in Scotland, H&R added

It's also available for home delivery, which suggest stock levels aren't too shabby.

Don't forget your 2% quidco.

Cheers
Simon

anyone got a deal for the tomtom one v4 traffic receiver
thanx carl

I bought one about a year ago for my 520 and its useless. Unreliable signal and the information is usually out of date so its sits in a drawer now. Not worth even £10.

It is really bad.

While the deal is good for a new one, the're are LOADS on ebay for around £10 - mainly because they are crap and don't work.

Now I got a TomTom 740 live, with a free 6 month sub and its brilliant!
#16
Anyone tell me if you can add this to the standard 520 and effectively make it into a 520T - or is there more to it?
#17
Yes it should work, assuming you have a socket on the TomTom or mount. Check the online manual at TomTom, see if you have got the socket. If you scan the pdf for TMC you'll find it in the pdf quickly.

If someone wants my reservation number for one in the Birkenhead store then PM me.

can this be used for the tomtom one v4

can this be used for the tomtom one v4

I believe not. Only a USB post on the v4, this uses a fake-headphone jack like type.
#21
You can have mine for a fiver. These are rubbish, never detect real traffic jams and fabricate ones that aren't there.
#22
at first i thought this was RED HOT as ive been after ones of these for a while. and i have reserved one at local pc-world.
but looking at peoples reviews they dont work!!?
how good actually are they?
#23

Mine is excellent with the 720. You just need to know how to use it to advantage. I have the wire laying flat along the bottom of the windscreen (VW Passat B6) and it seems to work very well in this position (don't use the suckers, they dont work).

I have found that if you stop during a journey, make sure you turn the TomTom off and restart when you continue, as the TMC has to have a live feed from the vehicle to power it. If you just rely on the receiver starting again when you turn on the ignition, it will take tens of miles to get a signal. Turning the TomTom off and on when continuing the journey seems to reset the TMC and a signal will be obtained within a mile or so.

Mine has detected blocked roads and has re-routed me successfully on several occasions. I always use it on a long journey; for a tenner it's worth the investment.
#25
Do you need a subscription to make it work?
#26
In stock at Portsmouth, Burrfields Road.

Worth a punt for a tenner I say. HOT!

You are right there. I used mine for 1 day then tossed it in a drawer. Dont waste your money buying this it is not worth it.

TomTom 520T is just a 520 with this traffic system added in the box, I know I have one.

If you do much driving on the continent then it might be worth getting one of these. The signals are stronger over there, and (in my experience) the info is quite often reasonably up to date - though it does vary from country to country. It's especially useful there if you cannot understand the traffic reports on the radio.

That's why they almost give them away in this country and include a lifetime subsription, whereas in countries where it works well they normally charge a monthly subsription for the service.

Picked one up in Warrington, they has three other ones reserved. Appeared to work out of the box on the way home with my TTG720 but will only know for sure on Mondays commute.

For a tenner it is worth a go especially as my yearly Traffic Subscription is up this month, and TBH that is not brilliant either good at telling me I am stuck in a jam or warning on none existent ones.

Thanks OP

Anyone have a link to this supposedly useless piece of tatt? The link provided doesnt seem to work for me and I cant find it with a search on PC Worlds website.

Took a chance and got one from PC World Carlisle (none left now) i have a One V3 but it is modified :pirate:in that it behaves as a *40 model with IQ, Lane Guidance and TTS (Text to Speech) and the models that it mimics do not have this RDS-TMC.

Anyway all working ok and it also announces via TTS Voice traffic delays and problems along with changes to the expected arrival time.

For under £10 its given my TT1 V3 a whole new set of functions and made me put off my decision to upgrade which was going to cost ££££££££

Got one from New Oscott Birmingham, Still a few available, Also at least 6 available at Stafford, have only tried it out once up to now, Only as good as the info. it is provided with. Worth a tenner ! !
#37
Picked one up, I got reception in Cheshire (warrington, Macclesfield) without a problem but I cant vouch for the accuracy yet as I havent done a big journey.

TIP: If you have one of these

Turn unit in with TMC plugged in
Route the furthest place in UK from you
Look at the delay (if any shown) compare to tomtom on line, RAC, traffic master etc for comparision
