amazon have the tomtom rdc-tmc reciever for £30 - bargin - its normally around £50-60. this picks up signals over fm radio, allows your tomtom to know where traffic is and avoid it. no subscriptions necessary

NOTE : I have one of these, and it doesn't work particularly well - spends most of its time trying to find a signal, and when it does pick one up it has a habit of over-estimating traffic delays (2 hours delay for ~ 1 minute real delays). either way, the price is great and it might be worth a punt - the only other option is one which works via your mobile phone, but costs £20/year if i remember right

I have one - brought in part with my voucher on here.

Uses Classic FM for signal so if you can pick that up works ok .... Has saved me a few times but signal can vary depending where you are (I'm in Colchester). I manually tune mine which seems to work better.

I'm not sure whether this is the old version or the new one as TomTom apparently listened to everyone's complaints and released an improved model (i.e one that worked). The original Receiver did indeed receive very bad reviews but the newer and improved version is slightly better by all accounts.

This is the new version - I checked with Tomtom for the part number before I ordered mine, unless its changed in the last two weeks

"The Full product partnumber is: 9V00.017. The partnumber for the actual receiver is: 2V00.006. The RDS-TMC antenna is version 3.75."

It's cheap but doesn't work? How is that a hot deal?

I have this item and have used it for a month or so before just chucking it in my glove box, its fairly useless. I wouldnt buy it even if it was £5 as its useless. Tomtom on its own it just fine, believe me.
