This is a new (Sept 2008) version of the TomTom add-on that gives live traffic updates to your TomTom. It is only compatible with the current and recent models of TomTom, so check compatibility before purchase (520, 720, 920, 530, 730, 930, ONE XL, XL 30 series, TomTom ONE 3rd Edition, TomTom ONE 30 series).

Earlier versions of this product were very problematic, but this new version is claimed to have solved the problems. This is a very good price compared with other sellers. I have ordered one for my Go 720, I hope that it lives up to its claims!

Manufacturer's Description
The TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver gets traffic information to your TomTom. For the one-off cost of the receiver you can get traffic updates and let your TomTom reroute you around congestion.

Product Description
Technical Description: TomTom RDS-TMC TRAFFIC RECEIVER (USB)EU . - 9V00.101 (SatNav GPS Antenna) The TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver gets traffic information to your TomTom. hot for the price, was inclined to get one when they first came out but they are very unreliable apparently
#2
These are £50 from TomTom's site - HOT!
#3
Great bit of kit and couldn't do without mine now. If you have TOMOM then this is a smashing add-on and is great value for money - at that price.
#4
I've had my one for about 6 months, never had any problems at all with it. As soon as you plug it in, the unit recognises it & starts the RDS reception process.

Wicked piece of kit.

Also buy 2009 maps from Hypergear for £49.99

Well worth it with this product

Does this definately work with the TomTom One 3rd edition. I may just be being thick but I can't see that on the amazon site?

I can only see 'TomTom One 30 series'

Thanks

Got to add my recommendations, really handy piece of kit to have. If you've invested a fair bit of cash in a TomTom you may as well get traffic info for a little bit more. Mine has worked more or less flawlessly.

What kind of tomtom do you have?

I have a tomtom one 3rd edition but can't see anywhere if this wil be compatible :?

The only thing I concern is when I use the car charger I can't use the receiver. They use the same socket, don't they?

Anyone have similar concern?

Tom Tom one 3rd edition anyone? Would really like to buy this if someone can confirm that it works with my model. Amazon specs are rubbish
#14
Ah, these do exist and work! Although I don't have a Tom Tom, my Ford satnav system has the re-route ability for when traffic gets hairy and it is absolutely superb - a big thumbs up from me :)

Just had a quick look on google. These two images should explain that you can charge and use this at the same time. Hope it helps!

Not at all mate.. the old ones are poo but i got this one about a month ago, its decent... not perfect but worth the money if you spend a lot of time on the motorway... they are **** for local traffic reports tho and they can make your tomtom lag a bit ...it gets a 7/10 from me

Since we are on the topic......is it true that its illegal to place a navigation device anywhere to the left of the steering wheel?

I have the TT One v3 Europe and it works great, can't fault it at all. Thought the small screen may be an issue but it's not. I have the 'old' traffic receiver (oval shape bulb) and again it works perfectly holding the signal. Drive up the country, down the country and get a green signal on the main roads. Can't complain at all. Oviously there must be issues for some otherwise TT wouldn't have built another but mine just works.

This new one will have a pass through for charging.
#20
hi

how do you check which tom tom version you have ?

cheers

john

Don't waste your money on this.
It does not pick up a signal in many areas, and by the time it warns you of any traffic, you will already be stuck in it.
#22
Nice find.

Shame it doesn't work on my v2 :-(
#23
Is this the same as included in "T" traffic packs? e.g TomTom 530T

Only if you have purchased on in the last month or so.

This model was released in September 2008, so will only be in the latest stock.
It is mounted in a different way to the earlier versions, the TMC is 'daisy-chained' between the TomTom and the power lead.

I am not sure about the earlier models, but I think the method was different.
#25
Thanks OP - being looking for one of these for a while now - heat added!

Depends, the law is that you just need to keep the windscreen clear of obstructions to your view of the road. i think this link helps - http://www.whatcar.co.uk/news-special-report.aspx?NA=219571&EL=3156112

Check this thread:

Looks like this new RDS-TMC unit requires power from the cigarette lighter socket, then this power is used to also power/charge the USB socket which it is plugged into the TomTom.

So basically if you get a unit without a power socket, it is not the 2008 version (or so it seems).

I've ordered one too - so we will see.

Edit:

This link should explain it:

Can anyone confirm whether this works with a Tom Tom one, V3?

thanks.
#29
hoping this works with the one v3 Europe!
I have avoided the older version of the traffic reciever as it has got poor reviews.
If this works for the tomtom one v3 I will definitely pick it up.
H+R added. Great deal, great price, even though I prob wont be able to make use of it!

just rang tomtom support line, this does support tomtom one v3!
Apparently Tom Tom One 30 Series relates to the v4...but will also work happily with the v3.
Any compatability issues ring tomtom on:

Price has gone up to £29.99 now! It is available through loads of other sellers for about this price, but it'll probably be the older version...
