I just went to my local Currys this afternoon to collect the Hitachi DAB radio posted here on another thread and I found theses recievers discounted to £4.97 and there were at least 10 boxes. Now to be honest I know they are pants as I have bought one before and now it is somewhere in the loft but if any one is keen on trying them it is the time to do it now for a fiver.
I have just checked and it is on line also

Yes I saw them too whilst collecting my Hitachi. Would have got one for eBay but the boxes were very tatty. Bargain though.
#2
I thought about ebaying few but to be honest I thought the profit will be to little to justify the effort
#3
>I know they are pants.

I've never had any problems with RDS-TMC on my TomTom. Routed me round problems on many an occasion.

i do 60 miles a day (i have been doing this for the last 7 years)...the traffic information on this reciever is mostly out of date. I am only submitting the deal because at this price it is worth a try
#5
Do you have to subscribe to get traffic info??

No..it is free
#7
Worth mentioning this is the 3.5mm plug in type and not the newer mini USB connector that the newer units use. At least not if it is the same as the ones I saw in Currys at £9.97.
#8
Anyone know if this works on the Navigo's running Tomtom as they have a TMC jack connector ? :?

information on this receiver is out of date? :? I thought it was live traffic info. Maps go out of date, not live traffic info - unless I'm missing something it should never be picking up out of date info. Might not be updated instantly you see a traffic problem but all TMC receivers tend to be a little slow as its only as fast as the service gets updated data. Do you mean the service itself is slow to update the traffic problems and pass them onto the Satnav?

what I meant is that the reciever might be telling you that there is an accident after 2 miles while in the matter of fact the road is clear as the accident happened two or three hours earlier..I ignored the warnings on many occassions and there were no problems

thanks just reserved one
#12
thanks op. just reserved one.

Had one of these from amazon think i paid £19.99. It's not really that good. Takes too long to tune onto a radio station.
#14
Where do these plug in?

I looked on my dads tomtom one and my gf's onexl and only things on there are headphone socket, charging hole and usb
#15
damn! i paid a tenner at pc world last week!
#16
My car has traffic updates built-in and it's a brilliant feature. If these work, then I can only recommend that people get one! Otherwise, the re-route ability of satnav is largely pointless unless you can predict jams.

There have been three (possibly more) models of receiver; the USB connected one (current), the one with the oval bit close to the Tom Tom, and the one with the oval bit at the far end of the cable. The last one does not work at all, so if you got one of those... The other two should be fine _provided_ you set them up appropriately . You can't just stretch the cable out horizontally, you need to have both a horizontal section and a vertical section (it does state that in the instructions but not everyone reads them!)

Mine (model with the oval bit close to the Tom Tom) picks up a solid lock within a minute of being connected in a semi-decent reception area. In a poorer reception area it can take longer. Basically, if you can get Classic FM with no hiss it will probably be quick.
#18
Cheers for this. Have got one to go in the other car.
#19
In my experience, these passive receivers are nowhere nearly as good as the newer, active versions (those equipped with a mini USB connector). Having said that, at < £5, you can't really go wrong with this. Voted hot.

Yes you can! I have one of the later versions with the mini USB and it is layed out horizontally and tucked in between the dashboard and windscreen and works perfectly well.

Ah. Well.

I'll rephrase my earlier statement; with the _non-USB ones_ you certainly have to have an L shape, with the USB ones you might be able to get away with it. (I'd still probably do it to be honest...)

Bought one shortly after getting a Tom Tom One and I took it back as I couldn't get it to receive any kind of signal.
#24

But at Currys where this is for, its £4.97 and £0 to collect at store - total cost £4.97???
Besides... its not available for delivery?
#28
Reserved mine now thanks, for this price it's fine and dandy. Have some heat!
#29
For those who mentioned seeing these whilst picking up their Hitachi Dab Radio, does the radio have "normal" screws to take it apart or are they the "security" type or even something else? (long story but I need an largish FM radio with pre-sets that I can take apart)

I'd love to know this too. Been trying t find one for my Navigo V2 for months. I've reserved one anyhow so shall see tomorrow. if not I have plenty of friends who I can flog it onto.
banned#31
yeap, I took one before one week, for 9.99
yes, need L shape for quick conecting to service,
sometimes the info is old (the street is normal), sometimes the street have jam (it do not say nothing),
but sometimes the info is correct,
50% - 50%,
the New Generation HD Traffic Receiver (5-7 pound per month , for TomTom 740) use the signal from mobile phones of the drivers ( if somewhere somebodies stay on the road, that mean jam) and this is more precise,
you take what you pay.
#32
Thanks, reserved one and thanks again for once they have something in stock - my local one that is lol.
#33
Great deal, Heat Added.
Reserved and collected mine today.

Thanks
#34
Off to my local store tomorrow to hopefully get a refund of the difference

If there's 3 or less on the system then it won't be available to reserve online.

So you could try calling them and see if they have addional stock available

The store closest to me, if i phone up about any clearance deals the staff just say the item is out of stock, and keep it for themselves.
Which is why i don't bother phoning up.
