Is this the cheapest this particular model has been? I've had a quick look and it seems so.

Bloody typical.

I just put my old Tomtom on Ebay.
Couldn't have waited another day could they? oO

What's better, this or Navigon 40 Premium?

Navigon 40 Premium is £99 - but can't buy it from halfords.com because their domain has expired!

I find lane assistance very annoying. It just shows an image of how it thinks the lanes are laid out - this image overlays on top of the map so you can't see where you're going until it disappears.

In terms of helping you with the exact lane you should be in, I've never found it helpful.

Hello

Looking for a cheap but decent satnav. I guess the question has to be asked are you better with a dedicated device like a Tom Tom or better investing in an android phone like the Orange San Francisco which gives you google maps and other functionality for the same price. Also does anybody know which release this is is the mark 1 2 please Thanks

It's a really good deal in my opinion. However it's not Edition 2 which has some nicer new screen interface refinements if you are already used to TomToms. Otherwise it's basically the same.

Yes it has Lane Guidance and yes you can get rid of LG by simply touching the screen if you want to see the map again (Doh!) or simply choose from the menu not to show it at all!

Have to say i've been fairly impressed with the google maps navigation, but i've not used it extensively. I'd probably still go with a tomtom though, the GPS receivers in them are generally better than the ones built into a smartphone. Won't take long till they're on level playing fields though!

No this is the v1
#18
Will it come with free map update?
#19
Not sure about the map update. Still very good value at £84 for an excellent entry level sat nav.

TomTom still market leaders and rightly so. Android/ Iphone run tomtom apps very well too but it depends on your budget and personal needs.

Cannot go wrong with this deal. Get it while you can. Oh, and by the way I love TomTom in case you didn't realise. Have owned various devices for a decade or so.

Don't know whether this works on the same priniciple but a Garmin I bought at the airport needed updating on a PC. I was abroad and away from a PC and couldn't update. The system doesn't remind you before the free update period expires so I forgot and ended up with preloaded maps that were totally out of date and Garmin didn't want to know. Enough whining on my part - just don't want others to do the same

The reason I'm selling my Tomtom is I've just bought a Navigon 2310 cos it had 2 years European map updates for free.

the interface is **** horrific though, the Tomtom is infinitely nicer to use. I don't think the Navigon 40 has a different interface than the 2310...

When the lane assist pops up, either tap the screen once to make it go away to see your map or configure it in the options to show a much smaller lane assist graphic along the bottom row of the screen within the status bar.

tut tut tut, you shouldn't be using the sat nav while driving, it's illegal, you should pull over to the hard shoulder, stop the car, switch off the ignition, then tap the screen, then continue your journey ! oO
