Set to be the next big thing over here, the Tomy Aero R/C range offers buildable R/C's for kids at pocket money prices. Being an avid RC enthusiast i decided to treat myself to one last week and it arrived today. It took me half an hour to build it which was great fun, plus a range of option parts are available for pence not pounds which means your kids (and yourself) can get into RC without shelling out loads.

Shipping is just £2.63 on top of the £4.92 purchase price and mine arrived in less than a week second class, even with the strikes!

These are great fun and would make great stocking fillers!

Hi miserablemiser,

Thanks for taking an interest, Play-Asia dont stock the spares/hop-ups, but you can get them from http://www.rcstation.com/ whom i personally havent dealt with before but will do soon.

You'll notice how cheap they are, for example a sport tuned motor is only $4USD (about £2GBP). I posted the link to Play-Asia though as i assumed most would want to buy either the standard car or get the car first before splashing out on extras, and Play-Asia are the cheapest.

Thanks for that!!

Yes, i reckon so, i didnt have any difficulty building it myself and the cars are aimed at Japanese kids. The instructions are all pictorial based, it just takes a few moments of interpreting them better because the text is all in Japanese but i knocked mine off easily in less than half an hour, great fun too.

Another good thing is no glue/screwdrivers/soldering etc... is required, it all just snaps together. If the child is patient then they'll do it, else a little bit of adult help might be required. Its like anything like that really, when i was a kid i played with Mecanno and my dad had to tighten the screws for me etc... but i could do nearly all of it alone.

Not really, that motor isnt the standard one, its an optional extra along with a high speed gear set at the grand price of $4USD (about £2GBP). They are fast enough for whizzing around a table-top/kitchen floor, they wont break any land speed records though. There is a switch on the bottom that allows you to switch between a high and low gear aswell. You can get bearing sets, faster motors, bodykits etc all at pocket money prices.

The cars are cheapest at Play-Asia, if you want to buy one with hop ups then check out http://www.rcstation.com/ who sell the hop ups. The cars are slightly more expensive but you dont have to pay shipping from two different places so it works out cheaper.

Thanks for that, I'm a sucker for micro r/c. Orederd the Aero R/C Remote Black Daihatsu Move Custom, can't wait to see how it perfoms compared to a Char-G.

Looks fun.

Anyone into small R/C cars should get a Tomy Q-Steer, I have a couple and they are superb. Check out some videos of mine if you're interested:

Might be a little more expensive than ebay but at least it's a U.K shop and I've only ever had brilliant service from them.
#25
i`ve just built my 1st one, enjoyed buiding it but not too imperssed with driving it
#26
Me too, thought it might've been just me and my building skills. Does yours not turn very well, if at all?
