good for people that want one i guess

Ordered one.

Wife has been bugging me for the past month or so about getting an epilator, was telling me the cheapest one was around £40.

The reviews for this seem excellent (have checked a few sites selling them, and one review on a blog by a woman who has used it for underarm 'epilating') and so I figure, at a fraction of the price I was probably going to end up paying, made by a good company, with a warranty, paid for by credit card (hence some security if it doesn't arrive or is faulty on arrival), I may as well order it and please the wife.

Now all that remains to be seen is for it to arrive, her to use it, and see what the results are like and whether she still thinks it was worth buying in the first place (has not actually used an epilator before, so this could all backfire, but then at least I can say, 'I told you so')

Epilating the underarms….Phillips HP6503 Satinelle Ice Premium Epilator

July 15, 2008 in Epilation, Hair Removal, Underarm Epilation

….With the Phillips HP6503 Satinelle Ice Premium Epilator

So, the hairs on my legs aren’t quite long enough to try out my new Epilator, but the hairs under my arms have been growing for a couple of days and as they need to be visible, but under 1cm for perfect epilation conditions - today was perfect for trying it out.

I did look at the Epilator with some trepidation - I mean, epilating the underarms? OMG! Major *ouch* is coming, you think…it takes a brave lass to touch a vibrating Epilator (and boy, is it noisy!) to the sensitive skin of a female underarm.

I have seen Epilator’s described as ‘instruments of torture’ on various forums on the web, but I think that is a bit extreme. If they weren’t effective or were so painful that it was practically impossible to use them, they would no longer be manufactured, nor would companies like Phillips - as big as they, spend the thousands upon thousands it costs for a few precious minutes of prime-time advertising on British television.

So, it was all charged and good to go…

I did think it sounded like an incredibly *thrilling* vibrator when I switched it on for the first time, but no one in their right mind would put one of these appliances near their girly bits (lol) not even me! There are much more appropriate appliances for that kind of thing ~grin~

According to the instructions, the Phillips Satinelle Ice Premium Epilator achieves 20 minutes running time on a full charge - one does have to charge the unit for a good 16 hours prior to using for the first time, so plug it in the night before you want to use it. I was pleased to note that it can be used on battery charge or with the mains lead - so if you do run out of battery, you aren’t stuck with a leg which is half hairy and half naked ~even bigger grin~

Before I epilated my underarm area, I dusted my underarm lightly with baby powder (basic talc will do) as this gives a ‘dry’ base which to work from. I can’t imagine it would work too well with sweat under there - oh sorry! men perspire and ladies glow don’t they?

So, I dusted lightly with baby power and having already popped on the underarm/bikini line attachment, I gently lifted my left arm and got to work.

Initial impression?

*Major Ouch*

I can’t think of a better description - maybe ‘bloody painful’ is more descriptive? But, as you know if you are a regular reader of my blog(s) - I was in a serious head-on car crash last year (yes, another drunk got behind the wheel and decided to try to kill someone!) and as that didn’t kill me *ironic smirk* I figured I could cope with this. I suppose I consider myself to have a ‘high pain threshold’ now I have experienced the worst pain a body can ever encounter. A head-on crash HURTS - badly. The agony for months afterwards with the broken bones, neck injury and other sundry unpleasantness is gruesome to say the least. Excruciatingly painful, are head-on road crashes - that’s if you don’t die! The neck injury I am still suffering from is very painful on some days, absolute agony on other days and occasionally, bearable.

So, after I had gritted my teeth and done a bit of ‘positive thinking’ chat to myself, I tried again and stuck with it. It didn’t take long, no more than a few minutes really. It did hurt, but as I got used to it, it was bearable.

The results are pretty impressive!

Here is a picture of my left underarm - 10 minutes after epilation. Barely any redness, no bleeding, nothing but smooth, baby-soft skin….of course, if I got in there with a microscope I have no doubt there would be a few stray hairs…there are a few trace hairs left when I have been waxed at a salon, so that is nothing unusual. I expected there to be more when I epilated and I expected the skin to be an angry red with raised welts of flesh. It didn’t happen!

It hurts, yes! It IS BEARABLE and it is something that I will (and you will) get used to with regular use as the hair follicles weaken, re-growth is stunted and the hairs grow back finer with each use. The results are fabulous - and I will remain hair-free in my underarm area for at least 4 weeks.

I definitely recommend this product. It does what it is supposed to do, effortlessly and quickly. It does hurt, but that is the nature of the beast.

My rating for the Phillips HP6503 Satinelle Ice Premium Epilator ?

10/10

Buy it!

I’ll let you know how it goes when I try it on my legs with the addition of the ice-pack, which is part of the Phillips HP6503 Satinelle Ice Premium Epilator.

And the second part of the review, where she also does her legs (http://ember999.wordpress.com/2008/07/17/epilating-my-legswith-the-phillips-hp6503-satinelle-ice-premium-epilator/):

Epilating my legs…With the Phillips HP6503 Satinelle Ice Premium Epilator

July 17, 2008 in Home

So, I did my underarms a few days ago and that was a success…see previous post

Epilating my underarms

I had thought that the hairs on my legs would need to ‘grow’ until Friday, but today I got my little ruler out and measured them and they were the right length. So, I got the ‘ice-pack’ out of the freezer where it has been for the past few days (so it was good to go, when I was good to go) and popped it onto the Epilator unit.

I decided the most comfy spot for trying this would be sat on the bed. I can’t bend forward without causing severe pain in my neck (that blasted ‘car crash’ neck injury pops into the equation again ~sigh~ ) So, I sat on the bed and got to work.

The minute I touched the Epilator with the ice-pack attached to the skin on my legs I knew this was going to be quite painful - or so I thought. Initially, it stung for about a minute but as the minutes passed and the Epilator worked it’s noisy way up my leg, I think I just got used to it, because it didn’t bother me any more. That’s not saying that I didn’t feel it, because I did but as I saw my legs stripped to the bone of hair, speedily and relatively painlessly (hurts probably a little less than waxing) I started to enjoy it!

When I used to get my legs waxed, I got the ‘half-leg wax’ for 2 reasons….firstly, I rarely get many hairs above the knee and on my thighs and secondly because of cost. I used to have to pay £21 every 4 weeks at the salon to get my half leg wax and underarms….(don’t mention bikini-line and salons..no female is going within cm’s of my girly bits LOL - that privilege is reserved solely for the male of the species in my opinion). So, a trip to the salon used to cost me £252.00 a year - that works out at £1,260 over a 5 year period and as I have been having my legs and underarms waxed at a salon for at least 6 years - I calculate that I have wasted well over £1,500 when I could have just spent the money it costs to buy the Phillips HP6503 Satinelle Ice Premium Epilator. By the way, I don’t work for Phillips, I am merely plugging this product because it is fabulous and it works! I love it when a plan comes together and this latest addition to my appliance collection, is worth every penny you could spend on it. Let’s not also think about all the petrol wasted going backwards and forwards for these waxing sessions, nor the 45 minutes I had to lay there whilst someone else took immense glee and pleasure from ripping the hairs from my body!

What a great job if you are ****** off one day - go rip someone’s hairs out and get paid for it! *squee* I was in the wrong job lol

So, the result….

Posted here on the web for you to see…

My legs - freshly epilated. This pic was taken immediately following epilation. It took me 20 minutes to do both legs. As I didn’t have to pay extra to get my thighs and over-the-knees done, I did the ‘whole leg’ rather than just half.

It’s incredible! It didn’t hurt that much at all and I look like I just came back from the salon and a waxing session and I did it in my own home, on my own bed, and with a bad neck! It’s easy!

Yes, you can see some little red dots - that’s usual after waxing. It is simply where the hairs have been epilated out…

Whenever I was waxed, I used to put on this when I got home. It’s a professional ‘after-wax’ lotion with tea-tree and it works marvelously at cooling the legs and reducing any ingrown hairs…

July 2008 043

Hive *After Wax Treatment*

After wax with anti-septic properties

A superior blend of oils and moisture agents provide the perfect conclusion to a waxing treatment, formulated to cool and moisturise the skin, Hive of beauty after wax treatment contains Tea Tree Oil which provides the added benefit of anti-septic qualities which will further reduce the chance of inflammation that can occur after waxing.

To help prevent infection, ingrown hairs and of course to soothe the skin post waxing….you should ALWAYS use a good quality after wax lotion.

This lotion is suitable for all waxing including leg waxing, back waxing, men’s waxing, bikini waxing etc…

This is the funny bit - look at the quilt after I had finished, where I had been sitting. You can see all the little hairs that were in my legs, that now are not *squee*

July 2008 044

I will now be hair-free for about a month on both my legs and my underarms.

DO BUY THIS PRODUCT, it’s fabulous!
