  Will it have the live traffic service? (valid for 1 year - on refurbs the live service might have been activated already by the first user?)

  New style tomtom. Not recommended if you ever want to update maps etc. in the future.

  I have the 1005 and generally like it. Was great for France too.
  
  Updating software, cameras and maps is technically simple but, unless you are doing maps under the map guarantee thing that only lasts a month or 2 from purchase, it is ludicrously expensive to load/update new maps.
  
  Tomtom don't really want you money, they'd rather just deter you.
  
  Since the UK cannot afford to build any new roads and planning/high land cost prevents house building, you'll be OK for the UK for about 10 years.
