It's not the first Dell specc'd PC/Notebook like this and it wont be the last

Someone wrongly added dell outlet to the title, this is not the case its brand new from dell. So I have changed it.

Wish this site wouldn't choose dell outlet everytime someone posts a dell deal.

Very nice laptop, nice processor and just for £409, Very tempted, hothhhhhhhhhhot

You mean £480.58?

I have the V13 - got as a replacement to my faulty xps m1330 from dell - Only 2GB ram but it flies with the SU7300 processor - for such a small light and sexy machine its unbelievably powerfull - It is SO thin and with the aluminium shell feels really expensive - I'd recommend it at this price.

Cheers for that, always good to hear from somone that actually uses the item. Any negatives?
#16
It doesn't have HDMI so that would be the only negative I can think of just by looking at the specifications.

#17
The battery is 'integral', so it is not easy to replace...

...this may put some off too...

Does look like s good deal though...
#18
As it has an integral battery can anyone comment on battery life and whether one can buy an external battery pack of some sort ?
#19
Seems to be around 3-4 hours (depending on use).

It appears that you need to send the laptop back to Dell to have the battery replaced...
#20
I weighed this very model up against the Lenovo Thinkpad Edge, and went with the ThinkPad, which has superior battery life (5-6 hours, removable), a lovely keyboard, HDMI, and a little webcam in the bezel. Also has 64-bit Win7.

It was close though, as this is aesthetically superior and may have a slightly nicer screen .
But I've experienced Lenovo build-quality before (superb) and that swung it.

Still, good deal.
#21
Good deal - but like the previous commentator I chose one of the alternatives. The HP DM3 Amazon deal at £449. (posted at least twice on this site). I have been able to try both of these. The HP includes an external DVD writer and has slightly better (and replaceable) battery life. The digital video output was important for me as well and I preferred the feel of the keyboard. I think that I had decided not to buy a Dell this time because they seem to have lost the value for money position that built their business. Even at the current offer price the Vostro seems merely good value rather than a bargain price.

I understand why Dell install 32 bit Windows on these business machines. It does give greater compatibility with some older programs.

£50 cashback at Cashback Kings for Dell laptops at the moment
#23
Comes up at 409 for me too very nice price :) takes away £90 with the coupon "Choose a Vostro laptop worth £549 and save £90" Expires 16 March 2010

so coupon see's the original price of £569

wow i wonder if with the cashback "£50" at cashback Kings its only £359 that would make it an amazing price for a top spec machine
#24
still £480.58 + cashback sites!! I think if you're after one this is the time to buy.

A 32-bit Windows OS can address around 3.4GB of RAM, so the extra 1GB isn't entirely wasted.

My Toshiba Portege R500 is as thin, but still manages to have a DVD writer 'cluttering it up'!
#30
Almost exactly what i was looking for.
Just i would prefer a bit mre battery life even if i do have to sacrifice a bit of thickness.

Very tempting though
#31
What kind of graphics card is in this?
#32
4 years on, I'm almost certain my Dell XPS M1210 is still more powerful.

Has a 2.33GHz T7600 CPU, 12.1" screen, rotating webcam, Optical drive etc but the gfx card is what really sets it apart.

Yes, but that would have been a SERIOUS price 4 years ago, not a cheapie like this, so it's a useless comparison.

Mate, as I know HP DM3 got some serious issue on the graphics chip and a large number of complaints were filed up both in China and US. this machine got hot easily and within 1 year the glue on the graphic chip loosen finally causes serious issue.
#35
do you get an external DVD drive with this?

I'd also be very keen to know the answer to this. Haven't used cashback kings before, only Quidco. Doesn't seem to be any T&C around the cashback, just says "laptop purchases £50".

£430 makes this very tempting....
#37
i think it would be ideal if it had a 64 bit operating system however microsoft do let you use 32bit keys on 64bit os IF YOU WISH, HOWEVER ANY ONE AWARE OF DRIVER SUPPORT FOR 64BIT?

I would be wondering if that included Dell business side?

Good question - after some hefty googling it seems that everything is picked up as standard in Win7 64 with the exception of the drop sensor. But a driver on the provided CD works, apparently.

What are the graphics like in this laptop. If it can play HD movies then I'm 100% sold on this over the Asus 1201n!
