But what is it and what does it do?
forgive my ignorance, my radio had valves when i was growing up.

Good spot! My partner got one of these from DX late last year and it's good; better than the R4 imo because of SDHC compatibility. I like the interface too. Heat and rep added for sharing!

I got mine from Dealextreme. Brill item, brill company. Great price too.
Heat given.
These allow you to "back up" your ds games/songs/films etc.:whistling: on Nintendo DS
Saves you alot of money

Been waiting for these to come back into stock for ages, is this the memory card I want for it? (Play.com seem cheapest?)

Yep. Any micro sd card will be ok. Some say Kingston are the best to get - faster/better quality but it doesn't make too much difference. You can also use sdhc cards which are bigger, but then i've got a 2gb and i've got 1 film, 5 music videos and about 12 games on it.

The DSTT is OK as a basic, cheap card. However, the interface leaves a lot to be desired eg. it displays ROMs in the order that you load them, not alphabetical.
Personally, I think you should go for an Edge card or a SupercardOne. The Edge is only about £1 more (but out of stock) http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10919
The SupercardOne is about £3 extra but has far more features and support:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5097
By the way, I own them all but would never buy the DSTT again, the interface is too frustrating.
#12
The toptoy was my first card and I found the interface to be very easy for a newbie . My order placed in jan for another one was just shipped last week.
#13
How many DS games on average could I fit on a 2GB card?
#14
what do they do and for? are they to download games and put them onit or something?

It basically allows you to run homebrew on your ds. You can download games to a micro sd card, slot it in the game cart then into your ds and play ds games.

There's over 2000 games now out for the nintendo ds, this device allows you to put lots of games onto a micro sd card then plug into this device and will allow playing them on your ds, all my kids have one, they where £12 just before xmas, dependant on size of games your can get about 25 on a 1 gig card and 50 on a 2 gig card, you will need a pc to allow you to put the games on the micro sd card and also put on the setup software needed on the card to make it work which comes on a cd in the box of the toptoy device, you should only use this device to run backups of your own purchased games, the toptoy will also play mp3 / and movies after using conversion software.

I have found these to be good cards, and if DX actually have them in stock it will be a miracle :)

Can any one explain how/if this is better than other similar items? I have the supercard myself, should I ditch that and buy this? What's so good about this one?

Thanks

Don't you have anything better to do..? Maybe pop over to Misc where all the random nonsense takes place? At least, that's where I go when I've got what you've got... :p

At the end of the day, it's personal choice. They all do roughly the same thing. If you've got the supercard one and you like it then I wouldn't bother getting a new one.

I have the DSTT and daughter has the R4. Both are similar. Both easy to use. The DSTT allows the use of a sdhc card - but then again, I have a 2gb which gives me plenty of space for what I want.

The only thing I would say is that the usb plug you get with the DSTT is a bit cr*p. I use the one that came with the R4.

They also have the R6 (a new product) in stock its under new items. Just posted today cannot seem to get a link to work.
Anyone have any thoughts on that one for £1 more

lol - I think you might be a tad oversensitive on this one. There was no 'hate' at all, just some banter in the same vein. As for your haiku, I see you are a 17-syllable traditionalist. You might want to try breaking the rules once in a while. It can improve style.

Lol, yeah, you're right - I didn't notice the smiley on your post. No more haikus from me for awhile....

R6 looks like another clone of the R4, kinda like the N5 cards, so stick with the TTDS, much nicer :)
