Toshiba are near top rated.

Far better than Acer who rate quite low.

I need a new laptop as well...looking at up to £500, the Dell Studio 15 looks good. I spotted this Toshiba the other day and it looks pretty good.

Paul Doh, I assume you mean the one on the Dell site with the 512mb graphics card? i'm looking at that one too and need some help with it. On October the 7th will it go back up in price? Also, do you think there will be anything in the 14 days of deals about it?

Thanks for any help anyone gives.

This laptop is not a good "deal" as it is priced at only £399 on the Toshiba web site, so is only £10 cheaper than that.

It is also a Celeron CPU which tend to be the cheapest / slowest of the Intel CPUs.

Try Dell link below - well spec'd laptop slightly more expensive @ £399 but T6600 Processor and larger hard drive.... Can't comment on how reliable compared to a tosh

GET THIS!
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/168681

slight over budget but you get the £50 cashback. it's ebuyer and they're always efficient and you can use paypal. I have this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-Satellite-L40-17G-Trubrite-DVDSMDL/dp/B0013EWQ1S

I just upgraded the RAM that I got from ebuyer (or it might have been crucial) and have had no problems AT ALL even with my 2 year old frequently jumping on it. I got mine for only £100 through a student deal at uni and it has surpassed expectation.

hope this helps
