How good are toshibas compared to wd's or samsungs? I'm in the market to adding another 1tb to my n54l microserver for data backup...

I assume you'd best stick with the same brand you've got, might be mistaken.
1 year warranty doesn't exactly demonstrate the confidence in their product though.

But on another note, Seagate and WD are rather less reliable given the amount I've had to replace and re-image in the retail sector but that may be because they are commonplace in such environments.

If you want a drive just for backups, then a 3TB WD Green for £66 or even a WD Red, makes more sense. Runs cooler, requires less power and is a lot quieter than this drive. Also, remember that once you've filled the 3 spare drive bays on your N54L with 1TB drives, you'll be kicking yourself when you realize you need more space - so basically this drive is a false economy in a NAS environment. The WD drives also come with a two year warranty.

Personally, I wouldn't touch a Toshiba drive given their limited experience making 3.5in drives, the terrible reviews on Amazon (etc), and their **** warranties.

nearly all drives come one one year warranty, Toshiba drives are fine, ofcourse horse for courses if you only buy samsung like i did only samsung drives will fail on you.

though currently im a bit of a RED fan so sticking with them.
