They don't refurbish a hard drive.
They sell it hoping that the last customer returned it thinking it was faulty, when it wasn't.
A dead hard drive goes in the bin.

are you saying this is a refurb?

Very tempted by this, seems to be one of the fastest 2TB Sata drives on the market, but there seems to be quite a few negative reviews in terms of DOA and high failure rates, as well as it being quite noisy under load. Unusual for Toshiba, usually their drives are excellent all rounders but....I'll have to think this one through. Seems to be the best price at the moment...

tempted by this for my nas as can't really afford WD reds and i've had non nas drives running for 3 years without issue. Re the review if you search for drive model and failed you'll get results for any drive.

I suppose the only issue now is you would have to pay full price delivery to get it before christmas, which is another nearly 10 quid.

Like lurch I would say you can pull up good and bad comments for just about any drive available, my own comments would be good, I have 2 and am thinking of getting another. They're reasonably quiet and pretty fast (199.3 MB/s in CrystalDiskMark sequential test). Reliability from my experience so far has been good, no worse than any other manufacturer.

I think the backblaze website posted on another thread states that seagate are the worst at the moment for reliability.
WD are good while toshiba and hitachi dont have enough figures for comparison so i think this toshiba is a good bet as i expect they are more reliable than the seagates.

Bought a couple of this DT01ACA200 for £53.17 from CCLONLINE and used in Zyxel NSA325. About 50% faster than the WDC Green drives that were in in there.

I bought this drive about 2 months ago and can say it gets 200MB read and write speeds. It's also very quiet and I chose this drive specifically after reading about high failure rate of Seagate drives and because the WD drives in the same price bracket are actually slower.

Just £4 and you feel sad, you don't know what sad is. I would say the Dabs price is excellent, £3 more than it was, is hardly anything to be concerned when you need it now.
