I think this has been listed before but the price has now been reduced by £20.

TV is Full 1080P/24P, spec is exactly the same as the 37xv555 model found elsewhere.

Not great reviews :

37XV553 - not 37XV555
2009-01-18
In line with another reviewer who bought a 37XV553 from Sainsburys I too have encountered similar picture quality problems despite tweaking the settings. It would appear that the 37XV553 is marketed by Tesco Direct and Sainsburys and is NOT the same as the 37XV555 sold here on with so many glowing reviews.I am considering returning mine to Sainsburys and parting with the extra money and get a 555 on here instead.I did wonder why there was a significant price difference between the two models when on paper they look identical. In the meantime I will persevere with the tweaking!
Still not good enough

Bought a 37xv553 from Sainsbury's (£440)Thursday night, spent several hours trying to set it up & the picture quality is still nowhere near as good as my old Toshiba CRT TV. Colours grainy & muted, background noise, lacking edge definition.People look like plastic mannequins , rarely a wrinkle, pore or spot, where-as I could see lots on the old TV. Recorded Natural World last night on hard drive, watching it on the old TV I could see scales & hairs that the LCD TV didn't show. Movement was better as well.
DVDs were sharper before as well, haven't got Blu-Ray.
I'd hoped the shop picture (Comet)was bad because of a lack of signal strength due to them running 30-40 TVs off 1 aerial (all the TVs were bad), I now know better . My Freeview box gives a 99% signal strength on scanning so it's not a bad signal (only about 6 miles from Crystal Palace transmitter, no big buildings in the way).

It's going back to the shop now.

I've just got the 553 from Sainsburys, It is without doubt a total bargain, you will need to tinker with the out of box settings, turn the flattening down and turn off dynamic user and work from standard. I'm really really pleased with it, the game setting works well with the Xbox 360, and the HD from my freesat box is absolutely stunning. After a bit of research and a few calls, (plus a conversation with a friend working in retail/AV) We worked out that the 553 and the 555 are identical, The 553 is made for supermarkets (Tesco/Sainsburys) and large online sale (play.com for instance) the 555 is the one Comet and John Lewis carry that they don't tend to want to discount to supermarket prices (hence the numeric difference - they all do it), both are 1080p which is where they differ from the 503 and 505. It is really nice inexpensive full HD TV and the stock is still there in the larger stores.

Freesat SD looks pretty good, as good as it did on a 26" Samsung, probably slightly better.

I also bought the 553 from Sainsbury's and agree that it was a great bargain. I'm delighted with the quality of the SD picture through Sky and freeview once I'd reduced the red and played with the settings. Just one thing though. You say the 503 and 505 models are not 1080p when in fact they actually are.
