I don't know how reliable their reviews are, but Which weren't a fan of this TV, scoring it badly on standard def picture quality and sound.

Got this TV

Its a cracking quality TV and we love the proper power button on the side to fully power off the tv when you go to bed!! Why this feature isnt on all new TV's i dont know!

I got this on the Dixons deal last week, absolutely brilliant TV.

Good find, would add heat if my buttons worked (at work) !

does anyone who has this tv have this problem: when you switch it on (from the big button on the side) it goes into standby, you then have to press one of the channel buttons from the remote to get it to switch on

How would this compare to a 37ins Sony - SONY KDL37V4000 ?

Thanks, as they're similar price ranges, and size, but heard that some cheaper Sonys arent worth it?

The Sony is a lower resolution than this TV - OK if you only want 720p (great for watching standard freeview, DVDs etc), but for full HD (ie what a PS3 or Sky HD can pump out), you need a 1080p TV.

Customer reviews for the Sony here - it is £445 at Martin Dawes

I think SkyHD is limited to 1080i, not full HD which is 1080P, but stand to be corrected

I stand corrected - SkyHD is only 1080i - PS3/Blu-Ray will definately output 1080p though, not sure about 360?

Personally I want a good TV for Blu-Ray/PS3 gaming - this looks like a good bet for that.

Never really noticed that, will have a look tonight, its only a couple of extra presses on the sky remote for me anyway.
Turn tv on by big power button and while sitting down press TV, power, Sky, power and im off!

Just read your post and thought I'd give it a try. Switched it off at the power button on the left hand side while watching a programme and switched it back on with the same button 10 seconds later. Although the red standby light comes on for a couple of seconds, it then changes to green and the same channel comes back on no problem at all without touching the remote control. If you switch the TV off via the remote control, it puts the TV into standby and if you then power it off/on with the TV's own power button, it will come back in standby mode where you do need to use the remote to switch it on.

I've had the 37XV553DB version of this TV (identical bar a small trim colour difference) a couple of months now and think it's great. I don't care what any tech-head reviews say, practically everyone who actually owns this TV and writes a review seems to rate it highly.

I have the same model only with a different screen size.

I love it, it's a great set for the money and games like GOW2 look amazing on it via HDMI as do all of the High Def movies I have watched, the sound system is also well above average (this thing would have the neighbours complaining if I regularly had it above preset 32-35).

The only thing it lacks which my old Samsung had are features like PIP and the ability to view the input resolution by pressing an 'info' type button, however Toshiba have obviously gone for the more no frills approach to HD.

Yea, PS3 can pump out 1080p from a Blu-Ray, but very few games are 1080p. COD4 (which everyone loves) for instance, is nowhere near 1080p. Of course, the PS3 upscales the picture to 1080p if you set it to do so, but this means nothing really.

I'm not saying it's not a hot deal, just that people thinking their 360s (which I have) and PS3s pump out 1080p material straight from game rendering engines are nuts.
