I've not voted either way on this deal.
Good price although reading some reviews on the net this TV suffers from really bad sound problems after a couple of weeks of usage.
Some people have had 2 or 3 replacements.......

Ha! I bet if I go to the bookies I'd get more than £400 back if I put £1 on England to win...... :D

Good price, but I cant seem to find the warranty etc on this? Would like extended warranty if Sainsbury does that sort of thing...

Oh dear. TBH I haven't ordered it as yet as I ordered the Panasonic Viera 42" Plasma from Currys a couple of days ago for £422 (Quidco tracked at £15 but doubt it'll verify), but this was my back up plan as my OH is get itchy feet about the Panny not arriving in time for the football! Maybe I'll keep my eye on the LG from Comet instead!

If Elvis takes the winning penalty for the USA Sainsbury’s are offering free burgers and ice cream for life. :w00t:

Actually, you'd probably get about £6.50 for your one pound 'investment'

I've got this TV. Excellent, never had any problems with sound or anything else! :)
#11
This is £469.99 in my local store (Spalding). Pretty sure it's the same model number. Bit of a cheek really if it's this much cheaper online!
#12
must be pretty confident that england aren't gonna win the world cup :)

I heard that!
Still ,once we're out, we'll all forget about it and do the same again in 4 years time....
(Good deal btw)

England wont win the world-cup - Germany just had a friendly yesterday and won it 24-0 (all be it the other side was a "b-team", even still, a impressive score-line)

More like you'd win about £8 from a £1 bet. To win £400 from a £1 bet you'd need to back someone like South Korea to win it.
#16
Just lay England for about £50 on betfair. If they win the World Cup you lose about £350 on betfair and have a free tv, if they dont you keep the £50 on betfair

+1 - what has Germany beating a team 24-0 got to do with England winning the World Cup?

Likewise in the store I work at (East Filton, Bristol), pretty sure it's this one too. It's been coming down about £10 a week in store, last time I saw it it was £469.99 as you say. Definitely a bit cheeky, but not surprising

But £379.99 for a 1080p 40" TV seems a great deal to me, I'll stick with my old Sony though.

Nice Deal.
#22
Only one thing stopped me from ordering: 50hz, or for sure I'd of ordered albeit this is cheapest I have ever seen a 40inch 1080p LCD HDTV for.
#23
this seems like a good deal although if i do buy this and england reach the final i will be in HELL

im scottish, whats the biggest evil, missing out on 400 quid cashback or england winning, actually that deal is putting me off buying it - this is a true dilemma

Just got an email from Quidco regarding this deal - "Viking Direct has increased cashback to 10% exclusively for Quidco members".

£399.99 - 10% = £360

Does anyone know whether you can use Quidco alongside the Viking Direct discount voucher code to make it a further £20 cheaper?

Whats the VD link to the £400 40inch 1080p TV?
#25
I got one of these last year its good, does anyone know if this will work outside the UK, want to use it in Portugal?

You mean the freeview I presume?

You'd need to find out what kind of DVB-T it uses, 8k, 2k or similar variants and see if it matches the type used in Portugal if not you'd need to get a Portuguese set top box to plug into it.
#27
can you still use the code and qualify for the 'free if we win the world cup' thing? I presume you can because its an offer endorsed by toshiba rather than sainsburys.

After South Korea getting to the semis in 2002 I don't think you'd even get 500/1 on them now! North Korea on the other hand....

They are around 350 last time I looked. Backing N. Korea would win £1k from a £1 bet currently.
#30
wonder if you'd be able to take it back if they did not win the world cup?

7Day DSR Rule applies, after that you'd have to prove it's not as described/not working or something in breach of hundreds of consumer laws.
#32
would love to see england win just to see whether these companies uphold their promotions...ibet in the smallprint it says something like
"must win by a deficit of 7 goals only"

In this economy?
Expect the board of the backing betting company to "suddenly" go into Bankrupcy,

So in the extremely unlikely case England win, your credit card is where you would go, not using a cc would be silly.

Correct, unless the seller fails to quote the 7 day rule in T&C's, in which case DSR can be invoked up to 3 months after purchase I believe. Given that they are a large company I'm sure they didn't neglect to mention it though.

The offer states that you get the TV for free if england wins the world cup . All that I am stating is that there are a good amount of nations that cud win the world cup, apart from england.
#36
it was football the first time round that got people to buy 720p screens

this time round the prospect of a refund is probably quite compelling
#37
if this is true, why not just go on betfair and you dont think england will win, lay off england to win for about £50 (risking £350), Then when England lose, you get your tele for £350 ;)

The gamblers will know what i mean!

Who did Germany beat 24-0 then? Was it by any chance a local YOUTH team? Oh yeah, it was. Hmm. So if Greece, for example, were to play the Shepherds Bush Primary School Girls XI (who went down to 8 players after three of the players had to go for a mid-afternoon nap - including the 2ft4" goalkeeper) 451 - 0, (that's over 5 goals every minute!!!) would they be the favourites for the tournament?

Do you now understand how stupid your first comment was, or do you want me to draw you a picture to help you understand?
