Up until yesterday, this Regza 1080p set was selling for £684.99 so a big saving of £185. The 37" version of this TV is still selIing for £636 at Argos. I don't know how long before they're all gone but I think I'm gonna get one. Delivered within 7 days.

I've listed the URL's of some user reviews so you can read what people are saying about it after purchase. From the user reviews, it seems like a really good TV. The reviewed 42XV555DB is exactly the same specification as the 42XV553DB but comes with a gun metal grey pedestal stand and speaker surround instead of black.

It might be cheaper at Argos, but it is £566 delivered with included manufacturer's 3 year warranty at Digital Direct:
http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/toshiba/42xv553.html#

The 3 year warranty works out at 60 quid, it would be far dearer to buy that at Argos.

Increases your choice, depends on whether you want the warranty or not!

That's the optional stand you get as part of a special offer. I believe there is also a more basic stand that is supplied free with the TV. It does say 'COMPLETE WITH STAND' in the item description, although it would be prudent to confirm via phone. Even if there was no stand, it's still a great deal and I'm just about to order one.

I presume it means the stand that comes with all of them - the 6" or so plastic support.

The Sainsbury's offer of the 37" Toshiba 1080p LCD is as good as expired as it's in-store only and everywhere I phoned for stock, they had all sold out.

100hz?

I think this 42" verison in the XV Toshiba servies actually does have 100hz, but the 37" doesn't.

I bought the 37" XV553DB from Sainsburys for just under £470 early January, so this is blistering hot! Only down side is the viewing angle is a little limited, but what it lacks in this department it more than makes up for in terms of sharpness, colour reproduction and sheer number of features.

It's a great TV though, especially for the price. I'd regret not waiting for this but there's always going to be a better deal the next month, and the next, and it's probably too big for my room anyway!

Please can the mods ban these tempting tv deals! I have a TV that is a perfectly fine 32" Samsung 720p yet I'm sat here trying to find excuses to buy this!

Killzone 2 on this beauty with 7.1 audio, temptation!

Anyone wants a 37" ? I've only used it 2 days. My room is huge and this would deffinately fit in better. We can haggle on the price. And I live in London - Forest Gate..

[QUOTE=Zerobob]I think this 42" verison in the XV Toshiba servies actually does have 100hz, but the 37" doesn't.

I can't find any reviews or any reference to it having 100hz anywhere but the 42XV555DB is reviewed on amazon favourably and there are refences to both sets having the same spec but different cosmetics and that the 42XV555DB is 50hz, so no clearer really. The 42XV555DB is also reported to "rattle" due to speaker noise so I don'y know if this will be theh case withe the 42XV553DB Tosh website deos not seem to give any specifics as to the hz.

Great looking telly a an excellant price,If someone does confirm this is 100hz before it's out of stock I will almost certainly be ordering one.

If it doesn't say 100hz in the item description, then it's highly unlikey it will be as 100hz is a highly touted feature that is used as a major selling point.

Great Deal. I have the 42XV504DG and with PS3 it is awesome. Don't think the new version is 100Hz but could be wrong. Great tele though :-)
#23
Just so people know, this set ISN'T 100Hz. For that, you need the RV or ZV range.

As it happens, not sure if anyone has posted this, but you can get the 42RV555DB from amazon for 599 if that feature is important to you. (It is for me, but that's a personal thing)

Plus, i strongly recommend you see this set in action first. I had a look at it in Comet yesterday running a blueray film alongside 3 other sets and it was easily the worst of the bunch. :( The viewing angle is shocking, and the contrast was noticably worse that the others (and i'm not an expert in these matters).

As a deal this is great, as a telly...i'm not so sure.

Just a little confused here..
on the digital direct website it says:

Model: 42XV553DB
42" FULL HD REGZA XV Series LCD TV
£516.01 Save 47% TSP £969.99

* 46" REGZA FULL HD IDTV LCD TV
* 3 x HDMI Connections
* 25,000:1 Contrast Ratio/1080P 24FPS
* Active Vision/Dynamic Contrast

it mentions 46" there? is that a 46" or just a 42" with typo

I was talking about my newly purchased £391.50 37" XV37553DB Toshiba, the one that some people here didn't get a chance to buy. Obviously, with the receipt and everything. But now I can see that the reviews are not as hot as everyone was thinking. I read somewhere that it is only 50Hz compared do the RV series which is 100Hz. But I'd still probably pay the difference if anyone wanted to swap. My room is huge and I haven't even got a Bluray player nor a PS3 to see the difference..

I was thinking the same thing after I posted.

Only reason I thought this is is that I was looking at buying the 37XV555DB around Xmas and noticed the 42XV555DB had one difference and that was a 100hz mode.

However, we're talking around the XV553DB models here with the grey bottom detail, which may mean the 42XV553DB has different spec to the 42XV555DB. But who knows. It seems very hard to get a complete and accurate spec list on certain Toshiba TVs.

Great deal and cracking tv I got the 555DB model of this at christmas for around the same price but with 5 year warranty.

555 and 553 are purely cosmetic differences, to reiterate what the earlier poster confirmed, XV reference Toshiba's are NOT 100Hz, RV and ZV only for 100Hz. The only difference you would have seen between 37XV555DB and 42XV553DB definitely isn't 100hz - there is no Toshiba XV television in any size that is 100Hz.

i'm after a 42" 1080p plasma, but am tempted by this.......
for xbox, ps3 and sd sky what woul i be best with, LCD or plasma?
not a big room.....
#33
If it's not a big room, the question really isn't plasma or LCD, it's 42" or smaller. Buy a better, smaller TV :-)

Another very nice price but amazon are giving dispatch eatimates between one and two months.

If anyone is confused by the specs of the various Toshiba 42" LCD's, you can read up here and "add to compare" various spec levels to see side by side comparisons:

http://www.home-entertainment.toshiba.co.uk/en/Regza-LCD-TV/40-49-LCD-TV-screen-size/

It even has the cheapo 40" made for Comet, that was pretty feature free that one ;-)

As an alternative, toshiba direct sales told me they could do it for £625 delivered - in 2 days. I didn't try to haggle or anything based on the amazon price, but i got the distinct impression he'd listen if i did. They even phoned me later to see if i'd made a decision!?

As I said in the previous page of this thread, My room needs a 42 and I've bought a 37 from the sainsbury offer. Could I just get it back and get a full refund and buy this 42" now? Or anyone here wants it for the same money that I paid? Offcourse, providing they've still got the 42" one in stock at argos. I will pay the difference from the £391.50 to the £503.00 they've got it at argos. I live in London Forest Gate

Anyone knows what reason could be likely to be accepted if I get it back to Sainsburys and ask for a refund as I've only bought it on Saturday? Does it have to be in the very same store ? (I had to drive 40 miles and I wouldn't really fancy it)

Pitty. I'm just trying to help myself and help someone else on here.. There's many people who weren't so lucky to find a 37" on the Sainsburys offer and don't have rooms big enough to accomodate a 42" like this one here..

Common people.. I'm still waiting.. But remember.. It's got to still be in stock at Argos. Otherwise it'd leave me with no telly..
