Title should read 1080i not 1080p ... 1080p is the ultimate :-)

I knew I should have waited to get 1080p set. I didnt think they would be this price for another year. Oh well.

Don't worry it isn't a 1080p, it is 1080i

There's really no such thing as 1080i resolution on a digital screen - it doesn't make sense, all such TVs display progressively. You'd think a TV company would get their tech people to write descriptions like these, instead of marketing people who just confuse things :-(

What it probably means is it accepts 1080i input only, which is just as well - that's all HD-DVD players can send, and all Sky/BBD HD is in that format as well. As long as it can do film detection properly, this isn't a problem at all, and the original 1080p signal carried inside it will be 100% recovered. If so, it's absolutely no different from a set that can accept 1080p input - if not, it might screw the detail with unnecessary bob deinterlacing (essentially turning it into 1920*540 video). Of course, discovering if it can do film detection isn't always easy, a lot of reviews ignore this key point. Some sets do it properly on SD sources, but don't have the processing power to manage it with HD - even some expensive sets do this.

Standard caveat applies for <60" 1080 line sets: unless you sit 5-8 feet away (nearer 5 feet for a 42"), you can't see the extra resolution and should just buy a 720p plasma instead at this price.

of course it is 1080P - the resolution clearly states 1920x1080.

does anyone know if this set will accept 1080p via VGA ?

guys, this IS 1080p 1920*1080, BUT only via hdmi, using vga its 1024*768, component in isnt 1080p either.

there is a long thread about this here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=679698

I bought one of these before Christmas from Currys for £1094. It IS 1080p via HDMI, but I don't have an HDMI source. :(
TV aerial (analogue) source gives very poor quality, digital built-in receiver gives much better quality, DVDs played through my XBox 360 (component 360) are really good as are 1080i games.
I have plugged a PC into the vga port and it is locked at 1024*768 - to use 1920*1080 you need a DVI-HDMI cable and a suitable graphics card on your PC.
All I need now is to switch over to Sky HD to really get the benefit of this TV.
Sound quality is OK but really needs an external surroundsound speaker system.
Be warned this is a BIG TV - only get one this size if you have a big lounge, or if you are going to sit really close you will need to be sure the source you are using is good enough quality.

BTW - This price is an ABSOLUTE BARGAIN!!!!!

I got mine when it first came out, cost me £1800, this is a steal. Awesome telly and the sound on mine is brilliant too. I use my games pc on it at 1920x1080, incredible(DVI-HDMI). Also have SkyHD on HDMI and 360, Xbox, PS2 and Wii on it's component (through a joytech component switcher), beautiful telly, buy one!!

It does not accept 1080p from vga (tried from my 360).
