I called them and asked them to match Dixons. Currently £549 at Dixons, but applying the vouchers (FIVE TV and DELTV) brings it down to £521.55.

But with Empire you get a free 5 Year Guarantee. So they match and give you the free Guarantee and deliver it for free too. Being delivered next week.

You can only get this price by calling them on 0871 472 9000.

You can get a Samsung 42" off littlewoods for £350ish and a LG 42" for £380ish

Although they don't come with a 5 year Guarantee, you can add them in and they will still cost less than this.

Only problem is that they are off Littlewoods.

The Samsung will say out of stock, but it will come back into stock at around 2230, as it has done the past few nights.

Nice find tho.

There are diferences though, not exact like for like comparison, the Littlewoods ones are Plasma aren't they? and also they are not 1080P, which this one is. Good find OP on this one. The littlewoods ones are bargains if you aren't bothered about going for Plasma over LCD and don't want 1080P, personally I would go with this one as you are at least future proofing yourself.

Just rang Empire Direct and they only do a price match if the package is exactly the same. As dixons only offer a 1 year guarantee Empire will match the price but will only offer a 1 year guarantee as well. He did say have would do it inc delivery and a 5 year guaratess for £548.49.

Samsung - Cat No: PY006, Model No: PS42A416C1DXXU

Just tried ordering Sony KDL32V4000U and was told they won't allow for discount codes and no 5 yr warranty. I have £91 credit voucher with them so would have liked to have got this set from them.

Even at £548.49 its a great deal. I'm gonna cancel my littlewoods £350 samsung and go for this instead. For an extra couple hundred quid your getting a much better tv, 5 years peace of mind, lcd and 1080p.

I was with you until you hinted that LCD is superior to plasma. It isn't and yes I own both

I'm not too bothered on the whole lcd vs plasma thing but just on the basis that this tv comes with 5 years peace of mind, 1080p and better specs its worth the extra couple hundred. I would rather spend a little extra and have a tv that i could keep for a long time. I'm pretty sure that i'd get fed up with the samsung after a year or so and have to upgrade.

I disagree,

We have 3 Flat Screens a 50" LG Plasma, a 42" LG LCD and a 32" Samsung LCD.

The 42" has the best overall picture quality.
The Samsung has the best blacks and contrast.
The 42" has the best sound.
The Samsung has the best styling.

Positive about the Plasma are .. hmm nothing really ..

It's an lg - you answered your own question. Not a great deal between LCD and plasma in Hd but in sd my panasonic viera knocks spots off my Sony Bravia LCD.

At 42 inches I wouldn't touch LCD with a barge pole - as picture quality on a tv is rather important to me.

Does anyone know if these HD tvs with built in freeview do upscaling?
#17
good deal and i prefer LCD

different sizes, models and brands - hardly a fair comparison

Hi, following your post I tried to order the Toshiba 42" tv but they said they would only price match the Dixons price ,not with the discount code.

I went to order this online and was accepted by empiredirect with the voucher codes, but took the item through checkout and as i was going to pay it became withdrawn and is now not advertised. And the voucher codes I had entered which were acceptable till 15th December now no longer work.

Appears this offer was too good for empire to maintain.

If you missed it, then you probably pay either the dixons price or amazon or john lewis which I cant find under £600 now:oops:
