Coming direct from Amazon.co.uk, the TOSHIBA 42XV635DB is £649 for the 100hz 42" 1080p set. Has 4 hdmi, 2 scart, component and optical out amongst others. Also is the XV range so quite a few more features and screen processing than the cheaper AV range.

However, purchase some time in the next few weeks from Amazon and if you follow this link below this paragraph you can get £100 cash back officially from Toshiba! Seems pretty good for the spec of set that is (the 50hz set is between £20 and £50 less and a poorer spec).

You can also get the 37" version using this promotion for just £449 after discount as well from Amazon using this official cashback too! Link for 37" is

Does this come with a 3 year warranty with Toshiba
#7
Was just about to post this deal myself!

Ordered the 42XV635DB last night. However decided to buy from John Lewis for £649 (no cashback!) but a 5 year warranty included and a free Saturday delivery, which tipped the scales for me (don't have to waste a day's holiday).

Was originally looking at the 37XV635DB which WAS in stock Amazon for £549.

Toshiba are also running a free 3 year warranty promotion on this range, but strangely this just seems to include store retailers:

Cashback offer (dealers):

I read it first as £549 cashback from Toshiba, thought it was going to be deal of the millenium! Still a great price with just the £100 though.
#10
100 Hz, hdmi... could this be used with the new(ish) 3d gaming cards?
#11
This is a great deal, think ill bag myself the 42" version

Great Tv, bought mine for £615 from comet, but mine came with a free upscaling DVD player.

I cant afford £600 straight up, so i took advantage of the buy now pay 6 months later offer from comet to save up a bit each month.

If i could afford it then i would of went with this no shout, amazing TV.

Great SD picture, amazing HD picture, which is rare as most TV's have a **** SD picture.

I purchased mine also from Comet including the dvd upscaling player and I 100% agree with the SD picture quality as I have freeview and the picture is superb compared to my old 26" samsung (except for btcc on itv2), then we get onto hd at 1080p with 100hz and game mode which reduces the response rate so you get a ghost free image.. utterly mindblowing.

the tv also does 24p for true blu-ray playback (when I can afford to get a blu-ray player that is! :whistling:)

kind of bitter the fact I paid more when I could of got it for £549 but hey thats depreciation for you

I bought this from Comet on Friday for about £617 (including the upscaling DVD) - I saw this offer at Amazon but I didn't want a delivery as this would mean a day off work to wait at home. The picture with SD looked excellent (compared to my 5 year old CRT) but just got Sky HD installed today and it is amazing. Superb TV.

Buy it from DABS who are doing the £100 cashback promo (through Toshiba)

Add on their 4 year warranty (which is on a half price deal with this tv)

Potentially get 2% Quidco

and

== net == £574.82 (if you get the Quidco)

== net == £586.55 (no Quidco)

inc VAT + inc Delivery + inc 4 year warranty
#16
Hot from me.

Cashback also on the 37" and 46"

Also agree the DABS deal looks better. Anyone one else better this?

Pasted from Toshiba Cashback link:

You must have purchased your Toshiba LCD TV from; Amazon.co.uk, Play.com, TV & Video Direct, Dabs.com, Buy It Direct, Bennetts,
K A D E Cobain LTF, Fenwick Ltd, Hughes Electrical, James Smith & Sons, Peter Tyson, Reliant TV, Sound & Vision, Digital Direct,
Scottish & Southern Energy PLC or The Co-Operative Buying Group.

How teadious is the cash back process?
#18
Hot.
How long before the included 'cashback' companies start trying to undercut each other?
#19
Does this mean I could get the Toshiba Regza 42AV635DB for £399.99 after the cashback?

The reveiws seem good on the 42AV635DB so is it worth spending the extra £150 for the 42XV635DB?
#20
XV series only.

So am I, was tempted to go with Amazon but Dabs is slightly more but with extra warranty

Which? report below. It scored 51% although if you hook it up to an AV amplifier, the sound quality is immaterial.

There are much better 42-inch LCD TVs than this full-HD model from Toshiba available for around the same price.

The picture isn’t up to Best Buy standard, and sound quality is very poor. But it’s not all bad news – Freeview doesn’t look too bad, high-definition pictures look vibrant, and it is fairly frugal when it comes to power use.

Picture quality is a mixed bag, but it’s safe to say that standard definition is not this TV’s strong point. Images look flat, dull and soft, and what the picture lacks in fine detail it unfortunately delivers in harsh and grainy picture noise.

However, switch from DVDs to Freeview and the Toshiba performs rather well. Despite a slight yellowish tint and a somewhat gritty feel, the warm colours and strong detail stand out. High-definition looks good, too. The same yellow hue and some slight loss of black detail are minor gripes sat next to the fine resolution, good depth and rich vibrant colours.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing minor about our audio performance gripes. This TV delivers sounds that are unnatural, muddled and compressed, speech seems distant and lower frequencies are ‘laughable’. Our experts also picked out distortion on several audio tracks, leading them to bluntly conclude that it was ‘an unpleasant listening experience’. To make the best of this TV you should make use of the audio outputs and connect to a surround-sound system or hi-fi.

The selection of sockets isn’t bad, with high definition especially well catered for. The four HDMI sockets support Regza link, which allows you to use just one remote to control basic and advanced functions on compatible equipment (such as a Blu-ray player) connected via HDMI. Next to Panasonic’s Viera Link it’s one of the most advanced systems we’ve tested.

It has an SD card slot for inserting your camera's memory card to view photos on TV (Toshiba has included a picture frame mode to display photos for preset times), though we couldn’t get it to play MP3 music or DivX video files as claimed. Both HDMI and VGA ports can be used to connect the screen to a computer so you can use it as a monitor.

Unfortunately, though easy to set-up, the TV is generally a pain to use. The remote is long, wide and uncomfortable to hold, the EPG is hopelessly daunting, and cramped buttons on the set are awkward to get to. However, we loved the addition of a dedicated AD button on the remote to access audio description tracks (an additional narrative for the visually impaired).

Power use is worth shouting about, too. It uses well below the average amount of power for a 42-inch LCD – just 107 watts. An ambient-light sensor reduces this to just 70 watts when watching in low-light conditions.

It comes supplied with pedestal swivel-stand (which needs to be assembled), and fixtures for mounting on a wall are sold separately.

Pros: Detail on Freeview, depth and resolution of HD, low power consumption and effective light sensor

Cons: Picture isn’t a strong all-rounder, difficult to use, crude and unnatural sound quality

Double check you bought from Amazon and not Tribal UK... Amazon would've cost £569.80
No cashback if bought through Tribal UK.

Really struggling to decide between this and the 50" Samsung Plasma on Bennetts:

http://www.bennettsonline.co.uk/entertainment/televisions/plasma-tv/Samsung-PS50B530S2WX-01789433

Anyone got any useful advice on these two TV's apart from one brand is better then the other etc!
#34
LCD for PC and more gaming (plasma's can retain image if left on the screen for too long).

Plasma's for a more cinematic picture and general TV usage.
#35
I've just plugged in a 5 year old Dell Computer to my 42XV635 with a £2 DVI to HDMI cable I bought off Ebay and kazoom - 1920 x 1080 full resolution.

Fantastic picture but its a shame the old 5200 Nvidia card isn't really up to playing video at that resolution.

Now where are those cheap graphics cards ........

I'm sure that they've made a mistake, but directTVs website leads you to believe that you could get the 46" for £629.97 with the £100 cashback and trade-in any old TV.
http://www.directtvs.co.uk/Toshiba_46XV635DB_46_Inch_1080p_LCD_TV_46XV635DB/version.asp?PID=

Reached the website from the 'Buy It Direct' link on the Toshiba cashback page.

EDIT: They've amended their error and changed it to just the price after cashback.

TV was delivered today  But hoping anyone can help, I'm trying to do the cash back and it says you need to send original invoice.. but my TV has came with no invoice from Amazon. :?

So will printing the order page from my amazon account suffice?

That's what I did. Should be fine.

In an earlier post I said I was buying this TV from John Lewis. I actually cancelled that order and bought from Amazon when the price dropped to £579 for a day. Received the TV next day (last Friday). Terrific TV!
