Good price, heat. The thing I have noticed though is that with all 2.5" SATA II drives, they throw in "PS3/PS3 Compatible" and can make a few extra quid out of it. Bit of a low-blow IMO. Would recommend a 7200rpm one for a PS3 Phat as heat dissipation is not really a problem with it but not sure about a PS3 Slim.

Unless you live in Scotland north of Glasgow, then the FREE delivery costs £7.22 which is interesting because Royal Mail don't surcharge.

You sure about that. what about all the YLOD PS3' s that have died due to overheating....

No really the point though. This is an internal 500gb hard drive for £49.99 delivered, not an external drive for £59.99 or now £62.99 delivered. :?

This is £10 less and will be fine to replace a knackered HDD in my Vaio, whereas i'd have to remove the iomega one from its case to fit in my laptop.:)

Different products, but feel free to post your deal as well:thumbsup:
#11
You have to be careful buying portable drives to strip the HDD out as well, sometimes the connectors are soldered like on some WD portable drives!
#12

Seriously how many wrong things can you post in this thread. First off your item was last week so it is totally irrelevant, the item you bought is NOT the same, the delivery is FREE. Carry on?

But they're funny about it - I live in Forfar, bought a laptop before Christmas with free delivery, got charged for delivery then had it refunded. Just been charged again for free delivery - waiting to see if it gets refunded too.
#14
Great find IMHO! They reckon £1 per GB for storage dont they! Ebuyer is also an excellent place to buy from. Customer service is pretty decent. If i had a spare £50 i would deffo do the upgrade.

Nobody is forced to live in Scotland, and eBuyer don't use royal Mail, they us UPS.

The reason why this will be cheap, is last week Toshiba released the newer 320GB/Platter dirves.

This will be last years 250GB/Platter drives which are last years drive.

These are the new 320GB/Platter drives on Toshiba's website

http://storage.toshiba.eu/cms/en/hdd/multimedia/product_detail.jsp?productid=338

The Manufacture code for the 500GB one is MK5065GSX.

I have ordered the single platter 320GB one from Scan, MK3265GSX, I am going to use it to upgrade from my old Western Digitial 320GB drive which has 2x160GB platters and is in my PS3 now.

Should run considerably cooler.

All These Laptop Drives Are Ps3 Compat ( Unlike 360 ) So Not Sure Why That's A Selling Point

Ebuyer use a variety of couriers I believe. In swansea and cardiff at least they use citylink.

When did you last order from them?.. they even have a picture of a UPS van on their Home Page.

UPS delivered my last two parcels, before that it was City Link.

It's 5400rpm, therefore more "compatible" with the PS3 as 7200rpm isn't recommended due to the heat issue.

heat added - i think this is a great deal.

BTW, I upgraded my PS3 HD to a Western Digital 500 GB (5400 rpm) last year and it's never given me any problems so i would recommend the upgrade to any PS3 owner.

about 3 months ago, however if they have stopped using Citylink that's great news. I hate them.

edit: funnily enough my workmate just got an aspire revo from ebuyer delivered here, and that was delivered by parcelforce.

However I expect in some cases ebuyer dont handle the delivery directly, maybe that's why.
#23
I almost went for this... until I realised I have about 100GB free on my PS3 HD as it is and have never even got close to filling it.

That's not strictly true, some are higher than the normal 9.55mm drives and won't fit...
#25
very tempted to get this, was going to get one next month anyway

How come you pay more for broadband living in a village :?
I live 5 miles away from the nearest town and telephone exchange but my broadband cost is the same price as anyone else who uses rip off BT living in a town, city or village:whistling:

thanks just ordered. in need of a new harddrive
#36
Thanks, Just ordered for my PS3 cheers :p

I can return the 320Gb I had on the way from PC World.

Afraid it's cold from me (but rep for posting) as toshiba drives seem to have an astonishingly high failure rate. I work in a small computer shop and toshiba drives are by far the highest rate of failure that I've seen. Admittedly their testing tools are basic but still there are other signs of drive failure and toshiba seem to go often.

As a sign of this, a recent toshiba I repaired for myself actually came with a Hitachi hard drive not toshiba.

would it take longer to read off a 500gb rather than a smaller one, for example a 160 gig?

my 40's almost run out and the only stuff its got is game data and saves. want to get a larger one but i dont think ill be using 500gb on ps3.

is there anything between a 160 gig and 320 gig?

I meant that I have to pay more because there are no LLU providers available, which as you no doubt know, are generally cheaper than non LLU providers. ( or perhaps you didn't know ).;-)
