supersaver is £4.79, so total incl. delivery is £49.78

Can you take these drives out and put your own in as well? Or would this void the warranty?

these are terrible drives, the caddys have a very high fail rate. HD is usually Western Digital and OK, but you end up needing to replace the caddy and lose any saving in process, plus hassle involved.

Had no trouble with mine whatsoever!

As King OF Bling has said...iwould spend the extra and get the 1Gb version which is still a bargain at £69.98!

I agree, I have a customer who has one that's also failed.:x

I agree with "sburley", Had one of these drives for a year and a half and the caddy controller went. Initially thought it was a failed drive until I did some research online and found out it's a common issue. Mine has a Western Digital HDD, bought a new caddy from Novatech and the drive still works but cost me another £12 to rescue it!

Regarding the deal, assuming you get a good unit that doesn't fail it seems a good price for that volume of storage.

A friend of mine bought a 320gb version of this drive and it failed within a few weeks. He gave it to me a while later rather than throw it away and I pulled the HDD out and it was fine proving that it was just the controller which was faulty :(

Therefore I can only conclude that the HDD Toshiba use are fine (Western Digital in my case), but the external controllers are flaky to say the least....

I use three Toshiba external drives daily at work & have never had a problem with them (2 are over 2yrs old). They're fanless so quiet & take up little space as they are compact & can be stacked flat. The only problem we've found is that the indicator light is very bright & we've had to cover it up!

All drives are mechanical & may fail. We duplicate our hard drives & do daily back ups for reasonable peace of mind.

Great drive for an excellent price.

What is it with drives these days?
The QC must be pretty poor.
I bought a Hitachi Deskstar, and it causes nothing but problems.
Problems with this Toshiba one, the "bargain" at Sainsburys.
Just don''t know what to buy anymore!
