Yes. Just make sure you format it correctly.
I'm not sure if it is the case with the Store.e drives but the Toshiba Canvio drives have problems with USB 3 and Macbooks, this issue can be overcome by using a USB Y extension cable or a USB 2 micro cable however.

The only thing to consider with USB3 portable drives is the the supplied cable is so short... Do you want the drive on display? Or tucked away behind.

hi,i am after one for the same reason and wondering if 500GB is big enough....i know it depends if you are recording SD or HD(freeview) but any idea how much memory say 1 hour of SD and 1 hour of HD would use up?....as a rough guess
