Not the best laptop deal ive seen but certainly not the worst - for the price is cheaper than lots of the acer deals around at the moment, and wiothout the terrible history of acer sales/service. Its not a mobile CPU so battery life may be affected. You do however get Toshiba build quality and reliability.

Toshiba cashback has been always been an easy process in my experience as long as you dont mind the wait.

Looks a good deal, but the Play.com site states that the £50 cashback runs from 18th February - 18th March. Has the offer been extended?

Sorry, should have made this more clear by linking the cashback site at http://www.toshibacashback.com/. The promotion runs until the 31st, "Your Toshiba laptop must be purchased within the promotional period of 18th February to 31st March 2008"

Where do you get that? THe PDF you got to complete clearly states until 18th MArch.

Voted cold as expired.

Edit: I stand corected. Its until 31st March. Stupid misleading info from Toshiba

Cashback is kind of dodgy because you need to print the cashback form on the laptop you claim for but you only get ONE go! If you fail, you forfeit your cashback. In other words, first you need to set up a working printer on your new A210 and then make sure nothing goes wrong during the one-time printing opportunity. For me, this is like Quidco (not guaranteed), so voted cold.

I have a Toshiba laptop in the A210 range though it is more highly specified than this one. I can confirm that it's a nice machine and of good quality.
I didn't get cahback when I bought mine but there was a warranty offer which I had to register and do a one-time print off for. It worked fine and I had no problems at all. As it turned out I could have done it on another computer anyway, so if you wanted to claim your £50 back then you should just be able to do it from a machine that is already set up with a printer if you prefer to.

it does not have the webcam....

the cashback is good - if you don't have a printer, install something free so you can print to pdf - primopdf works alright - then you have a pdf of your cashback doc you can email or print elsewhere

Have fun using Vista with 1gig of RAM
#10
Vista works fine with 1gb ram

Good advice. Although couldn't one just print the screen and paste it in Paint? I'm not sure if the lappy actually displays the screen to print or not. It's a bit cheap of Toshiba to use this trick to cut down the amount of people that claim. There is no legitimate reason why the form should be limited to one print attempt. Pathetic.

Are you not better spending an extra £20 and not worrying about cash back and getting 2gb of ram http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/163358/acer-amd-dual-core-tk55-15-4ins-lap/

I used Toshiba's cashback offer to get £50 off a laptop 6 months ago. Given the T&Cs I had a couple of queries about it which I emailed to them and they were really helpful in sorting it all out, despite the T&Cs appearing quite restrictive. I didn't get the impression at all that this offer is like the phone deals cashback where they're desperate to take any opportunity not to give it back to you. They were also quick sending the cheque once I sent the claim. As noted above, just do a print screen on the certificate if you're worried about problems with your printer.

I don't want to start a debate but these companies sticking Vista onto laptops with either 1GB of RAM and/or a weak processor that is simply not up to the task are fooling not only themselves but the good people handing money over.

Do yourself a favour and 'upgrade' this laptop to XP Pro - it will be a damn sight faster and all your programs will work.
#16
Vista does not run well with 1 gig of ram , format and put XP on.

i am running vista on a system not as powerfukk as this laptop and it runs perfect.

what cant run on vista on this system?

A bit late responding to this post sorry (and equally, not getting into a Vista/XP 'debate'!) but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the AMD Dual Core processor in this. (Let's see a better processor on a £280 laptop!) Plenty good enough to run Vista absolutely fine. Ok, the RAM is another issue - 1Gb is the minimum but by no means unusable for Vista, but it only costs about £12 to put another 1Gb in, and the laptop you'll have for under £300 will be great, for Vista or XP.

Will be going for this deal, currently got a Toshiba Pro A200 with XP Pro on it, I have no problems with its speed or anything else!

What is the best and most legitimate way of getting XP Pro onto this machine? Is there a way of getting a discount if you already have Vista, or doing a swap?

Dabs also doing this (http://www.dabs.com/Communications/EmailRedirect/EmailRedirect.aspx?BR=1257&EM=[email protected][email protected][email protected]W)
