A price that would be hard to beat for a decent brand laptop with a third generation i3 processor. The i3 3110 processor scores 3063 points on http://www.cpubenchmark.net so with that, the 4GB RAM and 1TB hard drive you are getting a lot of power for under £250.

It's refurbished, but comes with a one year warranty.

Windows 8 unfortunately, but aren't they all!

And this is without trying http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-15-3542-laptop/pd?oc=cn54233&model_id=inspiron-15-3542-laptop . Not brilliant but a good benchmark to decide whether a deal is good or not .

I'm afraid I'm suspicious of refurbs -they've been returned for a reason .

That Dell one looks a very good deal. As it's fourth generation i3, I wonder why it gets a lower mark on CPU Benchmark however? The Dell's i3-4030U scores 2803 points, which is lower than the 3063 points the Toshiba's i3 3110 gets.

The "U" range are the ultra low power versions of the chips. The 3310M is a standard version. So they are not directly comparable and yes, you would expect an older "M" to outperform a newer "U", although using a lot more power whilst doing so

The 3110M was the basic version of the 3rd-Gen standard mobile CPU - Passmark Score 3068 (35W TDP)
The 4000M is the basic verson of the 4th Gen standard mobile CPU - Passmark Score 3335 (37W TDP)

So the 4th Gen is ~9% more powerful, but also uses ~6% more power - which is strange.

I bought one of these the last time they were on offer and it was brand new !

It isnt strange, TDP is the maximum power usage, i.e. full load. Power savings are usually when idling or light usage and are coupled with the chipset (which will use less power).

It you want a refurb then look at the Dell Outlet when they update stock, last week I ordered a Dell 3542 i3 4030U 500GB HDD 4GB RAM for £222.

Also Argos/Ebay when they run the 10% off, couple of weeks ago I ordered an Asus K56CA i5-3317U 4GB RAM 500GB HDD for £242, thing of beauty with the aluminium keyboard, looks Macbook-ish.

Sorry, took me a while to figure it out. If I post it then I lose the chance of ever getting a good deal on the Outlet again.
