If it had a 500gb hd and 4gb ram the price would be about right

just took delivery of one yesterday looked lovely but lasted five minutes before screen went crazy being returned tomorrow ,just my luck but will probably order another and keep fingers crossed, full refund offered in 10 days rather than wait to see whats wrong with it and it was the 640gb 4gd ram I ordered £100 dearer but wanted more storage ,haven't seen anything at this price with all the ram and i3 but will be looking over the next 10 days whilst waiting for my refund .:|

Bought 2 refurbished laptops for friends from here and on both occasions the laptops were as new and great value.

Good deal.
#7
I am sure these include the one I returned...if u wanna waste your time give it a go ...I will give it a miss...
#8

This was previously listed at a higher price 2 weeks ago. Lots of useful information in the original thread. Notably, there is no HDMI port
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/toshiba-c660-laptop-i3-380m-2gb-320gb-hd-dvd-rw-card-reader-refurbished-243-98-d/949181

It's actually the same price as last time (once you take delivery into account).......and they flogged something like 230 of them in no time at all. I had been regretting missing-out last time, but given the above horror stories, I think it would be wiser for me to give it a miss.
#10
reading the other thread it seems you can upgrade the ram cheaply
#11
Refurbished can sometimes mean that out of 1000 laptops made half of them had defective webcams so they were all replaced, or something like that. So no need to avoid at all costs or anything.
#12
Only 2 USB ports ! Is that correct ?

I'm wondering if they are mad enough to make the same mistake again. Given what I read about argos outlet and laptops.... quite possibly!

I would not call this mistake, it is the British style of Monty Python and of Fawlty Tower of business. You pay your money and they take the micky.

I got one last time. Seems brand new. But i don't like the screen ratio...much shorter in height than my normal laptop. Means more scrolling. Plus the touchpads annoying...very gritty and has that zoom thing that keeps happening accidentally.

plus its packed with toshiba crap. About 50-60 progs already loaded! Probably why it doesnt seem too fast for an i3. I have actually acquired an extra 2gb ram for it though which Ive yet to put in.

With Argos Outlet, it does seem a bit of a lottery whether you get something that has been properly quality-controlled through a refurbishment programme or just any old piece of tat they happen to have lying around.

It makes me wary of Argos specifically rather on the idea of buying a refurbed machine per se.

Yup

Not a bad machine though, with Core i CPU
Its one of the ones Microsoft are highlighting as part of the Windows Collection

My cousin brought one of these from Argos brand new a few months back. Screen packed up within a month, Argos told my cousin to contact Toshiba directly for a repair. After a month Toshiba said they was unable to do anything because the laptop was registered in some elses name. Which was werid for a brand new laptop been brought from Argos. Resulted in a refund in the end.

bought this last week, had an issue with the wifi turning off every 3 seconds but it turned out to be a silly default power saving option (after reinstalling every single driver!)... other than that after installing an extra 2 gig i'm really happy with the performance

with regards to problems there was a leaflet inside saying to contact a third party refurb company in the event of hardware problems and they will arrange a free courier and repair or replace within x many days.

Bought 2 of these units a couple of weeks ago from the same offer.
Both units are immaculate, packaging a bit scuffed and one had a Post-It note inside saying 'mouse pad not working'.
Upgraded both units to 4GB for £13.99 (from play.com).
Very pleased with it, runs much faster than my previous Dell laplop and got a free 2 year Toshiba warrenty with them both.

Bought similar 2 weeks ago from argos outlet, not properly working, sending it back, I have emailed for refund and return, still have'nt heard anything, time waster...
#24
Nothing wrong with Argos ebay outlet, except when they mess up :-)

Yeah the mousepad works fine. In fact I doubt there was anything wrong with it as a press of the Fn button and one of the F keys toggle the internal mouse pad ON/OFF.
After being online for around 30 minutes a popup from Toshiba offered the 1 year extension to the warranty, which once registered they confirmed.

if they are faulty just send them back ! if your having problems with argos i have all the contact details i have had no problems good company.

Im having that problem. I noticed when plugged in wifi is fine. unplugged I keep getting the yellow exclamation triangle. Thanks for the tip

im guessing a lot of 'refurbs' are returns with intermittent faults. user buys, uses for a week before the problem becomes apparent, returns it to shop where staff test for 5 mins and deem it problem free.
When buying from ebay outlet dont you have to pay return postage too?
Seems like a lot of bother to me.

make sure you set it to unplugged = maximum performance and check the advanced settings and you should be fine!

Good basic machines, this will be my 2nd refurb, as people have said luck of the draw if you get a good one or not. I like the Toshiba support and would not by any other laptop.

I got one of these last time, the wifi thing was a bit of a problem even when changing the power settings, but I sorted that out.

The laptop looked brand new when I got it but found there was a loose screw inside which could have been bad but I opened the unit and fixed that.

Overall I pleased with the PC and would recomend to anyone.

I use it for Photoshop and the rest of the ADOBE CS 5.5 stuff works well.

Got mine last week. Perfect A1 condition, faultless and just popped an extra 2gig of ram in today.

Mine looked brand new.
