Ok so there are no manual controls which would be a tad frustrating however this is still an awesome deal
thanks for posting

Yeah but this was reviewed when the price was £800+ so the reviewer has got this in mind.. Now that the price is only £200, im sure the reviewer would post a different review because he/she would not expect too much from it as when it was for £800..

Heat added good buy for such low money, when you think it was over 800 not a few months ago

Like all CMOS cameras, will be crap in low light... see this post (and thread) it's a different camera, but will have the same issues...

how much time do you reckon you can record with an 100 gig hd?
for instance if you went on holiday and took it and had no access to a computer to dl your vid to

The 100GB storage might not match the Sony's 120GB platter, but it’s hardly paltry. It'll hold over 13 hours in top quality HD, which is more than we'd ever want to face in the edit suite.
#14
going for 1, thanks op
#15
Great prize, just 100gb hard drive 1.8" cost around half of total prize for this....
I will buy one!!!
#16
Good price , im tempted , have a Minidv SD i paid £500 for and have like hours of hours off tapes i cant be bothered to transfer lol......guess this would be easier and perform better.
#17
Want this but need to buy a bigger cupboard for all my old camcorders....
#18
just bought one good deal thanks
#19
Its really good price, I got on now

Thanks for the find.. bought one!

only 10x optical zoom.

Ignore the digital zoom.

This is not good.

I wouldn't buy this because most camera are alot more than this. Needs to be arouns 50 to 60 optical zoom to be useful.

If you can find a 50-60x Optical zoom camcorder for this price or even twice the price let me know.:)
#24
Now, I'm no expert but if this films in full HD won't the digital zoom be pretty good anyway?

Very decent for the price and a real sickener for the early adopters who bought this around £800... voted HOT with thanks and bought !!

This is a fair point, the zooming tech in camcorders and cameras has come on leaps and bounds since this one launched. As an example, Trusted Reviews published a buyer's guide at the end of November. Their sub-£250 camcorder pick is currently selling for around the £175 mark and has a 35x Optical Zoom.

However, this Tosh will beat it (and pretty much everything below £400) soundly in the image quality stakes. If you're going to be shooting at short range then this is a great buy :)

So that would rule out most HD cameras then, Sony, Canon, etc. all use CMOS on the majority of their consumer cameras. As an expert what you recommend....?:whistling:

That might just be for the accompanying free software, probably crappy editing and image apps. Would of thought you could still offload the files to Mac no problem.

I would be *extremely* surprised if it didn't work with a Mac.

Infact, I'd eat my hat. I'm sure iMovie would happily chomp through the video files this thing outputs.

just bought one

There are very few HD camcorders with over 10x optical zoom, which is the reason I haven't bought one yet. Waiting for at least 40x before I shell out for one.

And yes, I am a peeping tom :whistling:.
#38
What about battery life for this thing? Presumably spinning a HDD all the time is gonna eat the battery isn't it?
#39
Very tempted. Voted hot.
#40
Was tempted and for the price still am, its a really good stop for the price, but, sluggish auto focus and poor low light performance (which makes auto focus even more sluggish) means I'm still going for the Panasonic SD200. Here's a bit of the review that sums it up:-

"So, the A100F isn’t a camcorder for Spielberg wannabes, but it’s a commendable effort nonetheless and seriously easy to use. One for the camcorder virgins, we feel."

Reviewed at £850, so good deal at £199 if you plan on using it outdoors in good light most of the time.
