In case anyone is interested in getting a hd-dvd standalone player for their existing hd-dvd collection or are thinking of starting thanks to the good old £4.99 hd dvd's around at the mo... this is a great player. It's not 1080p, but i got mine yesterday and it looks amazing on my samsung tv which does 1080i.

* Playback: HD DVD Video, DVD Video, DVD VR, CD Audio, CD-DA
* Standard DVD video upscaling to 720p, 1080i, with HDMI output
* Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD (core only) (note: this is only 5.1 channe;s tho!!)
* Dolby Digital, DTS
* 2 channel audio output
* Ethernet connection
* 2 x extension terminals (usb ports)

What does 'Grade A' mean?

Grade A Goods are "Factory Reconditioned" to the Manufacturers original specification. All goods supplied are 30 day high street store (30 days) returned products. With grade A stock there is always a chance that there may be a minor cosmetic mark, Considering the price however these are considered to be very minor and will not affect performance of the product.

Mine arrived in it's original box, retaped up at the top and the played sealed in a bag with everything else sealed in another bag - remote, cables etc.... btw - this comes with a hdmi cable which is handy too!!!

So if you're not that fussed about the condition, and are looking for a cheap player (baring in mind, they are going for close to the £200 mark on other sites!) from a well known retailer - it's a good purchase!

Apologies if this is a repost!

These have recently been £59 brand new (not graded). Sorry cold
#2
Next week they are selling them @ £80 plus a free beta max recorder and a sega mega drive

No wonder the retail sector is in trouble if they are trying to sell obsolete stock
#3
and what do you suggest they do with them instead?
#4
i've got a mega drive if anyone wants to buy it. 7 games too i think.

yeah i know - i've been kicking myself as i didn't grab one when there was that mass exodus of stock from play/amazon etc... but i wanted to grab a cheap player as i'm going to get rid of my xbox... and have a pile of movies!

damn, i should have waited... mega drives were cool back in the day! :thumbsup:
Yeah i know what you mean, as soon as it went obsolete after the great stock clearout - the cost has just gone up... as if they are still trying to compete with the raised blu ray prices lol! :-D

Does it play £5 HD DVD's ?
#7
HD E1, as a multiregion DVD player blows away any SD DVD player in near price range

This is apparantly an extrememly good player, and I have read that it is built better than the EP30 (which I have got), however it doesn't support 1080P for those that have 1080P sets....I only have a 42" 1080i though and my EP30 looks amazing even on that as far as I am concerned.

Also there is no current firmware hack for multiregional SD DVD playback on the EP30 whereby there IS a hack for this older model, so that is another advantage besides the build quality.

Still worth checking out your local comet stores for these, I saw one display model only the other week going for £59.

Still dont get all the cold voters, these have the same upscaling chipsets that Denon and Arcam use, you would not find a more decent upscaler for SD DVD, let alone all the HD DVD bargains you can pick up right now.

I have both this & an EP30 , the HD-E1 on 1080i is far superior to the EP30 on 1080p .
