Wow, great price! The HD-XE1 is at least £432 everywhere else.
#2
Amazing find. I've added to your rep.
#3
Thanks for the post. I've updated it to include the delivery charge, which we always try to show here. :) Also a price and retailer name in the thread title and an image. Please see the links in my signature for help on posting deals. :)

This IS pretty good actually. Thanks for sharing. If I didnt have SkyHD and the possibility of getting an XBOX HD drive thingie, I'd be tempted.

Thanks again - voted hot.
#5
Great price, would pick one up if I had some spare cash knocking about this month.
#6
Is this today only, or a new permanent price?

I think the price will probably soon increase as they are likely to get a lot of orders at this price. There's a thread on AVForums abut this offer, it seems like they don't actually have any stock at the moment, in disagreement with what their website indicates.

emmajk42 : sorry for not adding image & delivery charges due to time restriction, as i saw this deal from work desk

why don't you invest 45 pounds more and get a ps3 with blu-ray?? just wondering that's all - don't flame me..

if you have got kids blu-ray makes more sense since disney/buena vista (and a whole host of other studios) is blu-ray exclusives

That person makes a good point...
...and I don't know that I can disagree with them :)

the HD-A35 will be released in september, it is half the height of the xe1 and supports deep colour, 24fps support and ce link, it will be $500, so about £300. wait to get 1 of those instead. there will be a version of the xe1 for about $400 - £250 which will be half height too.

dont bother buying this, wait for the a35!

Blu-ray uses restrictive region coding where HD-DVD has none. I don't know of any way around Blu-ray's region controls. Plus The Matrix is only available for HD-DVD and not Blu-ray.

I read that the HD-A35 is currently only announced for the US, and that if it is released in the UK, it may be under a different name.

Overclockers CS is piddle poor!!
Also read on another forum that somebody ordered one of these and paid for next day delivery. Phoned them up today and was told (eventually) that they don't have any in stock and they rarely have any in stock. Money is taken straight from your card if they have stock or not!!!!

Also alot of customers get this email from overclockers .............

In order to comply with credit and debit card regulations, we need to verify your identity. To allow us process this and subsequent orders please post or fax (details below) copies of 2 of the following documents.

1 - Bank statement showing address and within last 3 months.
2 - Credit card statement showing address and within last 3 months.
3 - Utlity bill showing address and within last 3 months .
4 - Driving licence.

Please include your Order Reference Number and daytime telephone number in all communication.

When the documents have been received and approved you will receive an email confirming your order is being processed. All subsequent orders will be processed automatically without the need for further verification.

If we do not receive a response within 7 days we regret that your order will be cancelled.

However Blu-ray has much more studio support, outsells HDDVD by between 2:1 and 3:1, has a larger capacity, supports uncompressed audio and very few titles actually have region restrictions as it is optional for the studios.

I think if one format does come out on top it will be blu-ray or at best there will be no clear leader. I would certainly go for a PS3 if possible as it is arguably one of the best blu-ray players (sporting HDMI 1.3) available. The only issue is no IR control so the standard harmony remotes won’t work with it, you have to use the controller or buy the Bluetooth remote.

the ps3 has **** audio support, it downsamples them, doesnt support all the new hd audio codecs nor 24fps, nor deep colour which uses 97% ntsc colour gamut compared to about 60% which normal players use.

in other words the a35 will be THE best hi def player out there and reasonably priced at £300.

Now £479.68 delivered!

Thanks for letting us know, marked as expired.

Looks as if it was initially a mis-price, as it was increased so quickly.

Still, that's the way it goes sometimes!

They mentioned it in their news section! http://www.overclockers.co.uk/news.php so I'd imagine it was the correct price!
If they actually get any in to cover the orders is a different story all together :whistling:

They did indeed!

I presume some folks on here did actually order one... it will be interesting to hear if they do actually honour any orders placed at the original price!

are you sure it it has bad sound and no 24fps/deep color? i am pretty sure it supports 24fps (common known fact amongst any hd fanatic), deep color (another common known fact) and the latest sound (Dolby TrueHD can still be decoded inside the PS3 and sent as uncompressed audio to the AV receiver). please get your facts right.

And carlsberg is probably the best lager in the world, yet it tastes like cats ****!

Please don't start a fanboy thread. It was originally a post about a standalone HD DVD player. It's now expired. Move on. :)

not starting a fanboy war it is stating of facts about a system. all the things i mentioned are facts to correct misleading comments i.e. ps3 supports 24fps, true color and dolby truehd. some people might think the ps3 makes an expensive/poor games machine (i won't disagree with them on this) but it sure is a decent hd video player (it is the cheapest blu-ray player you can buy in the uk) and as an alternative to the expired deal this ain't bad. there is nothing wrong in suggesting an alternative to a deal that is now expired.

Overclockers are very poor. There was a time when they were cheap and offered reasonable service, but anyone who has recently tried returing faulty (or incorrectly sent) items will understand their true lack of class.

But for anyone who got this for 300 it is a bargain - even though HD-DVD will be dead by Christmas 2008.

i am sure, have a look on google, i cant remember which hd audio formats it cant play, there are: dolby 5.1 Plus, DTS HD, DTS HD Master, maybe 1 more. deep colour x.y has only just been released, the ps3 doesnt do this.

have a look on avsforums for more info.

i am not sure whether the ps3 can decode DTS-HD or not but it can still send the 1.5Mbps core anyway and PCM is still bit for bit identical, so you re not losing anything... but the good thing about the ps3 is that it's firmware will be updated much more regularly than a normal hd player and hence any new technology is easily incorporated into the ps3 i.e. expect regular codec upgrades. unlike most major hd players, ps3 decoding of video and sound is done via software so the ps3 can keep up to date with future developments to a certain degree by regular changes to the codec. furthermore, since the PS3 has HDMI 1.3, it could send all audio codecs natively to any future 1.3 decoder you may have in your system. i am not an expert on audio but this is what i can gather from perusing google so forgive me if i am wrong.

deep color "x.v": http://uk.playstation.com/help-support/ps3/guides/detail/item68389/Y-Pb/Cb-Pr/Cr-Super-White-(HDMI)/

and you are of course wrong about 24fps.

trust me, the ps3 is one of the best spec for spec blu-ray player out there. i am sorry for bringing this subject up again but i wanted the facts brought out. i am not bashing any system just defending one so does this make me a half-fanboy ????? :)
