Currys are doing the TOSHIBA HDEP10 for £148 , which according to some on the AV Forums is a better machine in both playback , multiregion hack capable & build quality .

I think the £31 difference is worth it for a 3rd generation player (EP10 is 2nd gen), the boot up time is quicker and you get Bourne and 300 HD DVD's in the box. Build quality wise, the only diffrence I can see is the ep10 has a tin casing where the EP30 is plastic. On the multi region point for SD I hear its only certain discs that work, so must would keep their current SD player anyway.

Sorry to sound like an ass but does HD not care about regions? I travel to US a lot so if any HD player would play the HD DVDs I buy that would be cool

Thanks

HD DVD isnt region locked at all .. unlike blu-ray (fanboys attack)
:whistling:

it now also comes with a free Hendrix HD DVD

Yes currently the best price for the EP30 the next best is Play for a tenner more.

I'm holding out for another month to see what's about then, hopefully they would of gone down in price a little more.

good price for this, tesco were doing a similar deal for £199.
i'm waiting for a price drop on the ep35 personally....

Its painfully slow. I can cope with 30seconds to play a DVD..but it wont even let you eject your DVD until it has booted up. So if you just want to turn it on to take out your rental, press on....go make a cup of tea, and then come back

This is £199 at Tesco with 999 extra Clubcard Points and the 7 film offer.

So 1198 Clubcard Points altogether (199 + 999)

1198 Clubcard = £47.92 in Deals etc etc etc blah blah blah.

So 'effectively' this is £151 at Tesco after Deals value. Take off the value of 7 films (@ say £15 'street price') makes it £46......

May get this as it's a good price, would never buy the HD add on for my 360 as my console is really loud.

Isn't that the redemption list for the USA

Picked up a leaflet for the old list from John Lewis just prior to Christmas valid until 28th Feb. Not sure I'd rate these DVDs at £15. If they were new titles I hadn't seen before maybe but they will be just shelf fillers until I get round to them as I've seen them all before (most of the list/s are mediocre films too).
Off to checkout If this Tesco's offer is valid.

this has been this price with same film offer on play for months.

Yes actually. Lots of people complained including me. The movie industry won and they keep the ridiculous region coding now Sony want to do the same with high definition disc's. So blow them.

The loudest part of the Xbox is the DVD drive (at least on the two I have), they're far quieter playing HD DVDs as you've just got the system fans.

Yes.....I'm sure you never bought any DVDs because of that then then....
To the average consumer, every movie being region free is not a necessity.

Is it? That's very interesting. I may have to look more in to that. May just get that instead.
#26
I have it (the 360 add-on), may sell it and get this one as I wouldn't mind a dedicated, quieter player that has new discs with it too. Let me know if you want to buy mine. ;P
#27
I've just been to Tesco this evening and bought one.
I currently have a an Xbox 360 drive and this is definitely worth the upgrade.

Once I've eBayed most of the free films and my 360 drive, my costs for the upgrade will be minimal.

You do get 999 extra Clubcard points, but it wasn't advertised in the store.

I ordered this from Play.com on Christmas Eve and it turned up yesterday, considering 2 days in between were Christmas and Boxing Day, it came quick via Parcelforce. Pretty impressed with it, the 30 seconds or so to boot up aint that bad!

For the selection of HD DVDs Play.com are providing this link.

I'd hold out for HD-EP35 price reductions. The HD-EP30 does not have an in-built audio decoder with pre-outs, so can only send the audio via the HDMI cables or digital outs ( toslink or coaxial ). Most current home cinema amps can't decode the new high HD audio formats (Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD) down HDMI and if you use the digital outs, the audio is down-graded to Dolby 5.1. The HD-EP35, in contrast, decodes these new audio formats and has analogue pre-outs which can be plugged into most current half decent home cinema amps. So if you've an amp with extended frequency response ( above 20kHz and up to 100kHz - like mine ), don't get the 30!
